This is my 65 Chevelle wagon. I picked it up mostly as-is, but have done a few small things too it. It came flat black with the blue flames, and with a 454 under the hood, backed by a turbo 400 tranny.
Since then, my son Dave and I have replaced the stock bench seat with buckets from a Sunfire, replaced the dash pad, the steering column, put in a B&M floor shifter, and installed line-lock. Dave raced it last year, and to our surprise (considering it weighs as much as a house) it ran very consistent at 15.25 @ 90 MPH with a best time of 15.18 @ 92 MPH. Unfortunately, while taking it to a car show, I lost my oil pressure. I pulled over and shut it off right away, and found nothing wrong. It still runs fine and hasn't done it since, but it can't be trusted at the drag strip anymore, and I just haven't got the time to pull the engine out right now. But until I have more problems, I'm going to just keep cruising it. Future plans include a better paintjob, air bags, and 20 inch Torq Thrusts.
UPDATE : The motor gave out on us, but we got it rebuilt and were back on the road. From that point on we had nothing but trouble. Seems the engine had decided it wanted to go through a litre of oil every HOUR. Not even kidding. So out it came and it got rebuilt again. This time it's running a lot better, and hopefully when it comes back out in the summer, it'll be all systems go and we won't have any problems all summer. Hopefully.
ANOTHER UPDATE - 25/05/07
AIR BAGS!! We 'bagged the wagon!!
Finally, a practical use for air...
Believe it or not, some people believe me when I tell them it's got a 283 big block...this is after rebuilds 1 and 2.
The is sort of a shot of the interior.
