What is a Q45 ? It was a Japanesse Domestic market Nissan President Short wheel base built to compete with V8 RWD luxury sedans from Germany and Japan's Lexus LS400. It was powered by a technoligcally advanced VH45DE engine which on paper was rated at 278HP or 280PS- in Japan. 280PS was Japans limit on power, many Japanese cars which had 280 advertised PS put out much more but they couldn't be listed as that. Its belived that the VH45DE was putting down about 320HP in reality thanks to its variable valve timing and 4.5L dual overhead cam design V8. Engine itself is VERY stout from the factory utilizing a 6 bolt main with a gridle holding the crankshaft in the block, it used roller rocker hydraulic 32 valve heads with intake only variable valve timing- aka VTC. In 1996 due to emissions reasons in US the engine lost its VTCs and adapted OBDII engine management, but the "on paper" power remained the same, yet in reality it finally put out the claimed power. This vehicle is very heavy, even with the V8 power plant it doesn't have the best ooomph off the line- thanks to its very tall automatic transmission gearing, tall rear end gear and 4200lbs of weight to carry around. Once its up at highway speeds the V8 comes to life providing excelent passing power, it has no problem crusing at 120MPH all day long- but its speed limited to 149MPH thanks to its factory V-rated tires. Removed limiter Q45s have no problems reaching around 165MPH in bone stock form.
My Q45 is a BASE model, but there is really nothing BASE about it. It has every feature possible for its year- limited slip diff, traction control and heated seats. There where 2 other models avalible- Q45t aka the TOURING version which had a rear sway bar, HICAS 4 wheel steering, decklid spoiler, 15" BBS wheels to name a few. The Q45a- aka ACTIVE model was the top of the line version, which had the revolutionary for its time ACTIVE suspension that controlled the amount of body roll the car had around the corner, it had a even bigger rear sway bar, and standard trunk mounted CD changer.
I bought my Q45 for 900 dollars on Ebay, due to blown head gaskets. Its something that does not go bad on this particular engine, but the previous owner of this vehicle has SEVERELY overheated the engine when his radiator blew. I pretty much rebuild the engine from the heads up with new hoses, sensors, machined cylinder heads etc.
I will let the pictures speak for themselfs. I will update the pictures as more modifications are made to the vehicle to improve its handling and power. Since this car shares ALOT of parts with the Z32 300ZX, R32 Skyline in terms of suspension and brakes - alot of possibilities are avalible, all it takes is some deep pockets :) Enjoy the Ride.
