BubsVanagon's 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon

Yes, I am ashamed. I could not get storage for my van last winter. So, it sat out in the snow. Oh well, I suppose it was better than being driven in the salt.

This wasn't just soft snow, it was hard-friggin'-ice-friggin'-packed. At the front of the snowbank, it was up to my waist. An hour of snowblowing and shoveling made a nice little pathway to get my van to safety.

It's gone! Oh, that's right...

After this, I spent a few weeks preparing it for the road. Performing the long-overdue rear wheel bearing job, complete new rear brakes and hardware, fresh oil and filter (of course) and some other small jobs and it was ready for a summer of daily driver duty.

To answer your questions, when i built that van i used the Kennedy adapter plate and custom alum. flywheel, a new HD clutch, new axles, I should have done a better job when i ran the wires through from under the rear seat where I mounted the ECU to the engine bay, but i was running out of money and needed to try to get the van done so i could drive it to NH to get married.....as you try to put the newer motor in her you may need to make some new custom plumbing like you will see on the passengers side of the motor on my installation, good luck Jake!!

well its a got a horizontally opposed water cooled engine, I personally don't do much engine work myself. Currently, I am replacing the Upper control arm bushings, along with front brakes and roters. After that, i plan on turning the inside into a haven. The vanagon GL doesn't have a bed in it, but i plan ripping out the rear seat and modifying the back rest to come off so the seat and the engine palate will suffice as a bed. I have already taken off all of the door and side panels turning it into a psychedelic paisley. Curtains are next.
