86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2

Here it is!!! The engine swap page!!!

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2Here is the engine compartment of a stock 1986 MR2. 86 models only came in NA flavor. The SC wasn't offered on the MR2 untill 1988 in the US.

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2Here is the old engine on its way out!

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2Here it is in the car, sitting on its own mounts!!! Just need to hook everything up now!

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2Here it is all hooked up and ready to go! Just a few other aesthetic mods need to be done to make it all fit and look perfect!

After that pic, I still needed to modify my NA engine lid to allow more air through the intercooler, and I needed to relocate the battery to the front trunk to allow more room for the intercooler and air filter.

Below, you'll see my painted IC cover and the mods to the engine lid to allow more air flow.

Below, you can see that the air filter now sits where the battery once was. The pancake K&N was way too small for this supercharged engine so I got a nice big cone to help Mister 2 breathe better. The battery now resides in the front trunk.

Not only did the battery relocation give me a ton more room in the engine compartment, moving it low down in front also greatly improves cornering stability by lowering the car's center of gravity and putting more weight directly on the front wheels.

Here's the finished product!!!
