Here you'll see what has changed in the cabin. On the front page there were shots of the dash layout and the stereo system. This page shows all the new goodies.

Here are the most recent pics of the interioir

In those above pics, right off you can notice the boost gauge resting where there was once an air vent, the white reverse-indiglo gauges, a new handmade shift boot which is somewhat faded already :(, and a new handmade armrest pad to match the center of the seats. Also note the 88 headlight and wiper switches on the sides of the gauge cluster, and the 88 3 spoke steering wheel with "MR2" embossed into the horn button.

I picked up some very nice reverse-indiglo gauges off of eBay for around $20. This same set now retails for almost $50

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2Gauge face brightness and color is controlled by this little control console. Mounted in the driver's footwell area.

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2These three lights and the switch are specific to the supercharged model. On a stock SC MR2, they have specific locations. But since this is a custom engine swap, I had to come up with custom accessories. Their function explained below.

The supercharged MR2 features an electromagnetically engaged SC clutch. It works just like the clutch on an A/C compressor. There is a pressure sensor on the throttle body. When the vacuum drops to a certain point, the computer kicks on the supercharger. Big advantage to not having the SC on all the time is the fuel savings. The SC kicks on so fast that you would not know it was ever off. The amber light indicates when the SC is engaged,

The green and red lights with the switch select the low performance mode, for use with regular rated fuel, and high performance mode for use only with 91 octane premium and above. Green being low performance and red being high performance. I always fill up with premium, but I keep it in low performance mode often to save fuel. Switching to high performance mode makes the ECU run an advanced, more aggressive timing map. If you have regular in it and switch it to performance, it will ping badly.

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2Here is how the center console now looks. Right off, you can see that I have a new trim piece around the radio and heater controls. The original had craked badly at the bottom under the stereo, and just all around looked like crap. Also notice the new ashtry with a perfectly working lid. Thank you to a member of the MR2 owner's club for supplying me with these hard to get original pieces. Compare to the picture on the first page to see what a difference these 2 items alone made in the general appearance of the console area. I also ditched my old Kenwood tape deck for a JVC in dash CD player, a newer EQ mounted to the side of the console, and a CD changer which has it's control box mounted to the top of the console.
The shift boot I made out of leather was originaly dyed black, but faded in the sun. I've since made a new armrest cover out of the same leather, but didn't dye it. This is visible in the pics at the top of this page. I plan on making another shift boot and leaving it its natural color to match with the armrest pad and the center section of the seats. Also, this console shot gives a better idea of the location of the indiglo gauge control pod.

86Mister2's 1986 Toyota MR2Here are my 2 amplifiers and CD changer now mounted in the rear trunk. Before, I only had one amp driving my 8" sub. Now that amp drives my dash speakers, and my friend donated a 400 watt 4 channel to my cause. Bridged, it puts out 300 watts to my 8". It sounds pretty good! The CD changer all the way to the left is what is controlled by the little box at the top of my console.

On the next and final page, you'll see the engine swap pics!!!
