I've owned this W250 since christmas of 1996. Originally i kept the truck pretty stock and it was used for a daily driver and for pulling trailers. Roughly a year later I rolled the truck on it's side in a bad ice storm which resulted in a badly bent frame. I'd always thought about lifting the truck and using it off road so i decided to buy a parts truck I found for cheap and used it's good frame and rebuilt the entire truck out of parts from the two. I am a ASE certified diesel mechanic by trade and 95% of the work done to this truck has been done by either myself or one of my very good friends, Steve Kemper who sacrificed a consideral amount of sleep, blood and sanity to make this truck what it is today. Much of the knowledge used in building this truck and troubleshooting all it's problems over the years is thanks to Ramcharger Central, an online website specifically for Dodge truck owners. Please visit www.ramchargercentral.com and you'll be suprised at the vast wealth of knowledge and ideas from mopar truck enthusiests just like me.

Heres a shot of the truck after i ditched the aluminum bed cap and primered the whole truck one color. This shot was taken in June of 2005 at the Troy Ohio fairgrounds during the Fletcher Fire Department sponsored Off Road Challenge. the truck won 1st place in the street 2 class of the mud bog. Gage Magazine was there and snapped a couple good shots of the truck.

Here is a shot of it's current engine. an extremely worn out 360. it's running a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb modified with an off road needle and seat kit on top of an Edelbrock Performer series intake. An Edelbrock Performer-Plus cam kit rounds out the valvetrain. Spark is handled by a Mopar Performance electronic ingition system with an Accel Super Coil and 8mm wires providing the voltage to the plugs. Intake is handled by a K&N 14x5 inch air filter. Exhaust is handled by a set of Heddman standard headers with a custom bent 3 inch exhaust and Flowmaster 40-series mufflers dumping out at the rear axle. I'm currently in the works of building a forged crank 440 big block for the truck to replace the worn out 360. Mods to it will be more aggressive including a much bigger lift cam, larger Holley Truck Avenger carb and possibly depending on budget a pair of aluminum heads.
Power is transmitted to a NP435 top loader transmission thru a Centerforce Dual-Friction clutch set. A NP208 chain drive transfer case handles the splitting duty to a Dana 44HD front axle with 4.10:1 gears. Matching the front is a Dana 60 rear modified with a disc brake conversion using caliper stands from Great Lake Off Road. I'll be adding a full spool to the rear Dana 60. Eventually when the 440 gets dropped in i'll end up spending the $1000 on up on a Dana 60 front axle as i'm fairly sure a Dana 44 won't hold up to the abuse of a built 440, 38.5 inch tires and my heavy right foot.

Here is a shot of the interior. I pulled out the tore up factory bench seat and installed a set of bucket seats and matching center console from a Ramcharger so bolt up issues were minimal. All engine vitals are monitored by an assortment of Auto Meter Sport-Comp series gauges. I installed a Delco AM/FM/Cassette stereo sourced from a wrecked Freightliner at work. For speakers I installed a pair of 2-way Jenson 6x9 inch speakers in the doors and two pairs of Optimus add-on tweeters mounted in the outer dash a/c vents to take up for the highs being drowned out by the road and tire noise. I kept the system simple due to all the off road abuse would destroy any nice stereo i put in it plus you cant hardly hear it over the exhaust and tires anyway. Soon i will be installing either a custom fabbed roll cage or i may just break down and buy the pre made model that Jegs has due to the fact it's reletively cheap and i'm short on free time these days to build on from scratch.

Here are two front shots of the truck. it's sitting on roller tires in the rear that i use to trailer it to trails. If you get a good look, you see the Smittybilt bumpers i installed 6 or 7 years ago are starting to rust to pieces. By the time they got bad enough that i was going to turn them in to Smittybilt for the rust out guarentee, they quit building tube bumpers because of having to keep replacing them. Soon i'm going to start fabbing up custom bumpers for front and rear. the front will house a XD9000i winch as well as incorporate brushguards and Pro Comp lighting into the assembly. Also a set of matching custom rock sliders will be fabbed up to protect the bottom of the bed and the rockers. The truck currently rides on a Skyjacker 8 inch all spring lift. I've added Skyjacker shocks, steering stabilizers and steering correction components to complete the lift. The rear driveshaft was retubed to allow for the 8" lift. The front driveshaft was swapped for one from an 80's model stock Chevy Blazer along with the pinion yoke off it's Dana 44 to eliminate the yoke bind at the axle due to the extreme driveline angles associated with the 8 inch lift. The truck currently rides on 35x12.50R16.5 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain tires which are soon to be on their way out. They will soon be replaced with a set of 38.5x15-16.5 Interco Super Swamper Boggers on 16.5x9.75 Pro-comp rock crawler wheels. A 3 inch body lift and a set of Bushwacker Extenda-Flares will be added to better accomidate the taller and wider tires.

In response to the previous comment. Yes the truck was extremely underpowered with the 35's. At the time I was running those tires I still had the oringinal 3.54 geared axles under the truck. The 360 had 200,000 plus miles on it and was hurt. All the performance parts I added to it put it back to stock hp at best. I swapped in a pair of 4.10 geared axles right before I yanked the 35's and it helped alot. Now with the new 38.5 Boggers on it, I'm right back where I started on gear issues. The 440 I've got under the hood makes plenty of power but the truck is so far out of it's powerband due to the axle gearing, I'm constantly shifting gears out on the trail cause I can't hit the sweet spot I need. The truck is getting a set of 4.88 gears swapped in as soon as I get my tax money back along with a Detroit Locker for the rear end.

Great lookin Dodge. 5 stars. It's erie how similar my 318 is to your old 360. It's being built but I just bought the Edelbrock Performer-Plus cam/lifter set, Hedman Headers, and flowmaster 40 series and the 650 cfm carb are on their way. Was the truck really that underpowered with the 360 and the 35'?
