This page is to track progress of the HEMI installation.
I was fortunate enough to pick up a HEMI and transmission out of a 2006 Grand Cherokee, with only 6K miles on both. "What did you pay?" you might ask. Well that my friends is my secret, but let's just say I got a great deal. A "once in a life time" kind of deal.
I have already pulled the motor and drive train out of the ZJ and started to get it ready for the new install.
A local shop in Flushing Michigan called "2 Track Mind Offroad" is going to do the installation and fabrication. I will be on hand to help out as much as I can so I can say I got my hands dirty. Besides this will be the first Hemi swap into a '94 ZJ that I know of. The most interesting thing about this swap aside from the obvious is that I will be able to use stock guages. The Harness is being built by "Squire" (this will be theri first ZJ harness as well).
So far we have to cut out the uni-body up front and build in a new frame to hold the HEMI and to widen the area under the hood to fit the HEMI. And I have to use an "Electronic Accelerator Pedal" as the HEMI is all electronic. I also have to use guages out of a '99 or newer ZJ. But I can use my old manual NP231 T-Case, and once we get the motor in it will be down hill from there, we hope.
My rig has been delivered to the shop and the work is beginning right away. They are estimating only a month or so.
Here are some pics of what we have done so far...
My "once in a life time" deal...
Preperation is always the hardest, marking and tagging everything...

Is it going to clear the cage? You bet ya'...

It's Out...

Nice empty space for a HEMI...

My other little helpers...
It's on it's way to the shop...

So far we have had to cut out the old uni-body frame work and we will ahve to relocate the Hydro-Assist stuff later to make the HEMI fit. I am too narrow. We took out about 4 1/2" on both sides to make room. We are now rebuilding the uni-body with a real frame.
HEMI won't fit:
Going to have to make some room:
