Here's my latest find.
It's a 1990 Volkswagen " TRISTAR" These are not too common in the USA. What makes this doublecab a Tristar is the fact that it has 4 doors. The factory also added an entire interior coupled with lots of sound padding to make the cab quiet. Most doublecabs were commercial and very spartan. It came with a rare Swedish canopy that opens on 3 sides. Here's a shot of the 4th door Started to buff it out, the paint was a little oxidized... Interior shots: Here's some of the rare items installed
This Tristar has the 112i engine, I look at it as the GTI of the DOKAS! Here's my old 85 doublecab for comparison...
All three together again!
Recently added H&R springs and Porsche 18" twists.
7.5" x 18 fronts, 10 x 18 rears! You can't go much larger than this. I had to clearance the trailing arm to make them sit in far enough to be flush with the fender.
Lots of progress recently. Here's a shot of the new engine... It's an 04 Subaru STI mated to a Porsche G50 5spd transaxle. Getting this drivetrain in here was no simple task. Here's a before and after shot to show you the extensive modification. With this kind of power you're goin to need some brakes... Porsche 930 rear rotors / Boxster S calipers.
