Here's my 1971 Volkswagen Squareback. It's a good story, but I was driving someone home from a wedding one weekend down a road I would never usually take, when I spotted the Square' on someones front lawn for sale. On the way back through I stopped to check it out. A mere $500.00 later and it was mine. The previous owner who was in the military, was moving back to Florida so he didn't want to tow the car back with him. Talk about a lucky find!!

UPDATE: 8/9/06 Today I took on a new and never before done(by me) task. I tackled removing the motor of the Squareback. I had a little trouble here and there, but I removed the engine in just under 3 hours with no help. Not too shabby huh?! I'm planning on buying the Haynes manual for my Type 3, and I may just tackle rebuilding the motor. A set of 87mm "Big Bore" pistons and jugs will be going in the place of the stock 94mm which will bump it up from a 1600cc motor, to a 1641cc. I also plan on some other minor "go faster" bits, not sure what as of yet. Pictures will be up shortly of the engine removal and tear down....hopefully!!

UPDATE:7/24/06 Well the Square' still sits awaiting a motor transplant, or a visit to the V-Dub doctor. I picked up a sweet set of matching vintage license plates from Maine (gotta represent where I'm from). They are the oldschool yellow, and still have the original registration decals on them from '71. I'll be putting them on for shows, and may eventually register the Square' with these plates eventually.

UPDATE:6/18/06 I had taken the Square' out for a spin to go buy new tires one day. I made it maybe 500 feet from my house, and she died.... to make a long story short, I possibly need a new engine case, because the car won't turn over, and you can't turn the pulleys. Possibly seized it due to low oil, or something else that's just as bad. Hoping to have her back in action soon.....

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback Yep...

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback The special Maine Antique Auto vanity plates, can you guess what kind of car this is?

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback These are the (matching!!) Maine license plates from 1971 that I've been searching for, still with the original '71 registration decals (to match the year of my Squareback). I will put these on for when I take it to shows. Gotta keep it oldschool and original you know!!

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback Nice and low 3/4 rear shot. The previous owner tinted all of the windows.

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback Drivers side shot, check out the custom primer spots hehe. Drive it crusty and rusty right?!

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback Front shot. "It's not a car, it's a Type 3!"

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback Passenger side front. This side is going to need a new front fender, possibly a door, and a new mirror....along with some preperation, patience, and time.

n2vdubz4ever's 1971 Volkswagen Squareback Another rear shot. You can see the tips of the Pacesetter exhaust and the nasty looking tow hitch.... I realized after some researching, that the tow hitch on my T3 is actually a factory installed piece, so I guess that means it's staying on.
