I started four wheeling right after purchasing my TJ in January of 2000. Before I had 3,000 miles on my Jeep, it was in the shop for the 3" lift and 33" Super Swampers. Since then I've added something to the Jeep every year. Sometimes modifications were done after breaking down on the trail. My biggest mod came after breaking off the upper and lower control arm brackets off a custom Dana 44 that I had in the rear, which was replaced with the Tera 60 with an ARB air locker. This modification allowed me to go with a Tera Belly Up transfer case skid plate and vastly improve my clearance. Plus I was glad to get rid of a Detroit locker in the rear that created all sorts of handling problems. My modifications so far include the following:
- 3" Teraflex suspension lift
- 1" body lift
- Teraflex swaybar disconnects
- Teraflex track bar
- Teraflex SYE kit and CV driveshaft
- Teraflex front and rear adjustable control arms
- Addco rear sway bar
- Doetsch Tech shocks
- Tera 60 hi-pinion rear axle with ARB locker
- Dana 30 front axle with Ox Locker
- 35" Super Swamper SSRs on AR767 wheels
- Skid Row engine skid plate
- Teraflex steering box skid plate
- All Custom gas tank skid plate
- Teraflex "Belly Up" t-case skid plate
- Four X Doctor side bars
- Off-Your-Rocker rear corner panels
- Essentially Off-Road roll cage w/ frame tie-in
- ARB front bumber with Warn HS9500i
- Patriot Mfg rear bumber with tire carrier
- Turbo City "Rock-It" air tube and air filter
- Griffin aluminum radiator
- Quick Air 3 onboard air system
- Best Top flares
- Exide Orbital battery
- Turbo City CB antenna mount & Radio Shack CB
During the spring, summer and fall this Jeep is my daily driver. On average I wheel it a couple times a month (April thru November) with my club - New England 4 Wheelers.
In the fall of 2004 I did a run at Mt. Abbot in Maine that was documented by "4 Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine". The article, "New England-Style Rockcrawling", appeared in the April '05 edition. My Jeep is shown on page 59.
