Phase 3 of Car: My 2nd paint job, yellow with yellow flake. I think it looks nice, i will add a pic to show you. I finally got rid of the wal mart hub caps, and got some rims!!! Also started doin some more interior mods. Got a neon kit, so on. Ebay cold air intake, and then customized my headlights, which i personally think came out very nicely.
Like i said i think the headlights came out very nicely.
This page is dedicated to helping those go above and beyond in customizing your headlights. I remember seeing someone telling you how to do it, but i went a little farther and more in depth to help explain and show you with some pics:
So you wanna know how to customize your headlights? Well ill take you step by step to get you on your way to pimpin your headlights out.
Remove your headlights from you car
Remove your headlights bulbs from your headlights. Also remove the metal clamps that are clamped on it.
Preheat your oven to 300 degrees, and place oven rack on lowest position.
Take a cooking sheet, and place tinfoil over it, and then place a oven rag over the tinfoil, and over each end, so when you place your headlights on the sheet it is not touching any metal or tinfoil.
MAKE SURE THE PLASTIC IF NOT TOUCHING ANY OVEN PART, OR METAL, OR IT WILL MELT!!!
Place entire headlight in oven at 300 degrees for 5-8 minutes, or until glue is loose enough to pry apart from main housing. You may use a flat head screw driver to help seperate the housing from the clear part gently.
Once you have completely seperated your clear headlight piece from main housing, let pieces cool off for about 5-10 min.
Once pieces are cooled off, you can unscrew the 3 screws which hold the black light seperator into your headlight. You can also take out the amber cover to show the chrome look, or leave on, your choice. You should then have 3 pieces.
Take your black plastic piece, And spray with your choice of color of Krylon fusion. You can get this at walmart for about $3-4 bucks a can. You do not need to use primer, as this bonds directly to plastic.
Make sure before you start painting, that where you are going to be painting is in an area not exposed to wind, or debree, as pieces of shit can could stick to your piece.
Once you have finished with your last coat, you can now begin spraying your frist light coat of clear gloss onto your piece, this will give it a nice shine, and protect it from knicks, and scratches, ask your local paint shop for assistance. Spray your first coat, and let dry for 10-15, then spray 1 more coat on and let dry for another 10-15 min. Key word is "light" coats, you dont want it runnin, looks like crap!
Take completed painted piece, and reinstall painted piece back into headlight, you may put the amber cover back in, or leave out up to you.
Place front clear piece back together with main housing as best you can, and then place clamps back onto headlights. Leave headlights bulbs out still.
Repeat step 6, and remove again and while glue is still hot push headlight back into desired place, as the glue beofore may have denied its proper place. Make sure the headlight piece is directly where you want it, and let it cool off.
Once your piece is done cooling off, place headlight bulbs back in.
Reinstall headlights back into car. And you have just made some custom headlights!!
