Well this is my car; it's a 1966 Pontiac Ventura 2 door hard-top, 389 ci.
I got it in March of 2005 from my Dad who had been, what I would like to believe, storing it for me!! Since then I have done a bit of work to it but I though it might be nice to show you all what it looked like when I first picked it up.
When I first pulled up to Dads place to pick up the car, I was a little bit tired, I had driven, with the help a my very good friend Marv from Edmonton, Alberta to Hamilton, Ontario which for those who don't know is somewhere around 2700 miles and we drove straight through. The next pics are the first time the car has been out of the garage in approx 18 years.
The trip back was very long and very boring but I guess it didn't take to much out of me because after not running for that long it took me all of three days to rest up and get to work on it. The first thing I did was get it running. took a few hours to make sure everything was good but got it fired up and let her run for a half hour or so was a great day.
These next pics show my pathetic attempt to do bodywork, I have little to no skill when it comes to that stuff but impatience to get the car out into the light and after all it is spring and all I want to do is go to the car meets with something I own instead of being a passenger in someone elses car. I smothed everything out and spray bombed it flat black.
The next trick for me was exhaust, I had nothing past the exhaust manifolds so after a little research at my neiborhood muffler shop I ended up putting dual exhaust with a great sounding pair of flow masters on the car, I know I have lots of room for headers but not really sure which way I am going to go with the engine yet so left them off for now. The guys at the muffler shop were kind enough to throw in the chrome tips.
After driving it for about a month, I came to realize that I needed to do more, I was enjoying the car but it had no jump. factory intake, 2 barrel holley, points and a couple of really nasty electrical gremlins living in it, time for an upgrade!!
So Here it is before I started
Then started ripping into it
And now putting it back together again!!
And finally all done
I put an Edelbrock intake on with MSD electronic ignition and topped her all off with a Demon Carb. New platinum plugs and a good set of wires and away we go.
At the same time I also rebuilt everything in the rear end except the gears. New bushings, brake lines, brakes, seals, shocks, etc..... the only thing I could not replace were the rear coils because although I had a part number we could not find a set anywhere so I ended up putting a set of air bags inside my coils and tada!!! works really well now I can adjust my ride height and the firmness of the rear end.
On to tires and rims .... Spent alot of time on the net looking at the rims out there and settled on a set of American Racing Rims, funny thing though, I am at the tire shop looking through there catalogs and really liked a set there and after finding out the name of the rim "Ventura II's" knew that these are the ones!
After that the electrical gremlins had to go I replaced the voltage regulator, alternator, neutral start switch, and all the wires cables etc.. seems to have worked so far but I had to put her away for the winter.
I of course, like everyone else am looking for any parts specifically front end stuff like head light bezels and the like. E-mail me any time for more info email@example.com, thanks to all who look and more updates soon!!
