In October of 2006, we took Juliette (or, um, I guess Juliette took us) to Deals Gap, NC, for a weeklong vacation of sightseeing, driving, and more driving.

We stayed for most of our trip at the famous Tapoco Lodge, a few miles from the "Crossroads of Times" and the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap.
Juliette was pleased to have her own personal covered parking at the Tapoco. (Note also Juliette's nasty habit of chewing on leaves. She was seldom without one in her mouth the whole trip.)

Although a group from Miata.net was there, I was shy and didn't get to talk to any of them. Heres one of them, though, in a new MX5, on the Dragon.

No trip to the Gap is complete without a stop at the Famous Fontana Dam:

We spent some time in Great Smokey Mountain National Park.
Our first day rewarded us with torrential downpours, and Juliette learned that she hates pine needles.

Our second day rewarded us with a beautiful sunset.

In all, we drove the Tail of the Dragon, the "Hellbender," the Cherohala Skyway, and many more scenic roads in the area.

Big thanks to the Tapoco Lodge, who certainly have earned our trust, and we will return again.
