The silver 1961 Chrysler Imperial is my baby - only 40K original miles, purchased from my father who owned it since the late 70's. This car is showroom new in and out - completely original. I have the original bias-ply wide whitewall tires on original rims and the original hubcaps I put on for shows, but normally I drive it on the aftermarket rims / tires. The car has full power (windows, seats, antenna, ect), push-button transmission, factory air, factory AM radio, rear air, and a huge 413 Wedge V-8 engine. Also has dual stainless steel exhaust. I installed a CD player and speakers that are hidden (no holes drilled, totally seperate from the orignal system that still works) for cruising. This car is a dream to drive - it is extremely smooth and quiet. When you sit in the car you cannot hear or feel the engine. It is definately one of the best built, best looking cars to ever come out of Detroit, and shows that American enginnering is the best! The car has been repainted once back in the early 90's and the rear bumper rechromed, completely rebuilt brake system and electronic iginiton. The interior is immaculate and completely original, as is the entire undercarriage of the car.
Update - This past summer I had the transmission rebuilt, due to the low mileage on the car, many of the internal seals had gone bad, causing the rear sprag to go out. A friend who owns a transmission shop completely rebuilt the trans - many of the parts had to be custom made. Now the car cruises like new!
Over this winter, I plan to rebuild the front suspension - new tie rods, ball joints, the works.
