EXTERIOR
-------
The exterior was originally painted the duPont color Nimbus Gray solid, but for some reason was painted over with a shoddy white and blue job sometime thereafter. The vehicle also appears to have needed some work done on its right lower fender from the markings on the inside. When I pulled the car out in 2005, the vehicle was rusting around the chrome moldings and the rocker panels were completely rusted through. However, from the exterior it did not look terrible. Some chrome was pitted, but most of it was cleaned with many hours of rubbing compound. The safety glass windows have some bubbling in the corners, but it is not yet an issue. All lights work, and the rheostat was replaced so that the turn signals would work better. The beauty tips in the bumper need to be repotted and rechromed, as they are very pitted.

In summer 2006, this vehicle will be repainted in a aqua blue/white color scheme that was available on all models, but is not the original color. All trim will be replaced as needed and chrome will be replated.

ENGINE
-----
The engine needs very little work. It need to be powerwashed and the block needs to be painted the original aqua. All belts and hoses will be replaced, and systems will be checked. When the car was extracted, I replaced the battery, fuel pump, points, and condensers. In winter 2005, the radiator burst and was recored.

INTERIOR
-------
The interior needs a new rug, a small hole patched in the floorboard, and reupholstered seats. The mirror has cracked and needs to be replaced as well. The gauges do not light up as they should and need to be checked. The headliner is amazingly perfect. Door trim needs to be cleaned and replaced where needed. Dash could use a new paint job. As far as the original mileage, the proof is here: 53,153 original miles.

wow! I like that blue roof. Neat story too, especially the fact that you were able to keep it in the family since new! I am looking at a 56 Star Chief coupe but cannot find any good online info or forums to talk about the cars. Know of any? Thanks a lot and take care and good luck with the car!

nice looking starchief! my dad has a 56 chieftan two door that he has been slowly restoring, and i just love these cars. its really too bad that parts can be so hard to come by, because the pontiac looks far better than any other car of that era. keep up the good work!

the older the ride gets, the more costly it is. Yes, you can get good money for that ride right now, but I would keep it for another 20 years... She's gorgeous. I am glad to see you showing your classic. trust me, I respect you for that. Check out my ride to see if you like it. If you like it and believe it deserves nominate for showoff, simply click the nominate link... If you don't like it, you are also welcomed to degrade the ride... Also, please check out my official website on my page to view more descripion of my ride and to learn more about the job I do. Thanks for your patience

She's a beauty! Thanks for commenting on mine. You are indeed fortunate to have had family that passed the car down. Lets keep in touch as we restore them. I think we've already been bidding against each other on ebay!!
