Ok, after many more cigarettes and my determination to use my new parts, I got the rear brakes to work. I decided to do some cutting, yeah this is no longer a complete bolt on mod. Since the calipers needed to be set back 5-6 mm I started shaving material off the caliper mount. A chop saw with a metal cutting blade did the trick and made it pretty straight. The last part is the rotor clearance on the outside edge. Here you need a a couple more mm. to clear it safely. Maybe 3-4mm. You can have you rotors cut down, but instead I decided to take some material off the inside of the caliper, the part that wraps around the rotor, since the calipers will last longer than the rotors. Now everything seems to clear nicely. I need shorter caliper bolts now cause of the material taekn away, thats why I have so many spacers. Have a look on page 5 for more pics.

Ok, the 87 300z calipers came in an the verdict doesn't look good. The goods don't line up like I was led to believe. So heres the break down. The Z31 hubs bolt in. The calipers bolt in. Only problem is that the spacing on the caliper is off by about 7-8mm and the rotor doesn't space out far enough.

The only work around would be to fab up a caliper bracket that moves is out 3-4mm and 7-8mm inboard. I'm not looking to make a bracket at the moment so my new brakes will be shelved for a bit.

So after a beer and few cigs, plus scratching my head, I decided to simplify things a bit. Why not redrill my stock s130 rotors for 5 lug? Duh! Keep the stock brakes and voila! Now i know I won't have the larger vented rotors, but I'm trying to move this thing along. But don't think I haven't started mocking up caliper brackets with cardboard.lol Anyways, heres a pic.

Updates are coming slowing, but I am progressing.

I got the rear stub axles finally installed and will be able drop the car on the ground for the first time in over a year! Wow, I know. I'll be able to finally see how the wheels look installed.

Also, I have some 87-89 300zx rear brake calipers on their way and I still need to order up some new front rotors for a Q45. But hey it least it'll be on the ground soon.

New Q45 calipers bolted up.

Needed to replace a leaking oil pan gasket so while I was in there I pulled out the crossmember and steering rack to clean them up. Will be replacing the engine mounts, rack boots and tie rod ends.

Just took some more random pics of the rear wheel with the Tanabe coilovers. They are used, but I scored them for free. This way I can sort the bugs out before dropping 1k + on new ones.

New wheels came in tonight. Threw them on to check the clearances real quick. Heres a picture, click page 5 to see the rest.

Check out the new rims. Should be here next week.

I'm thinking about getting the center spokes powdercoated a different color. Let me know what you think in the poll to the left.

Happy New Year!!

Got my Q45 front calipers and rotors on. Still have some cleaning to do. Also, I have to trim off the dust shield becuase of the bigger rotor. Q45 rotors measure about 11 in., and the calipers a duel piston, which is a lot better than stock. Now I just to get some 5 lug hubs and i'll be looking for new wheels.

S13 front knuckles/coilovers painted and ready to go. Just need to start putting together the brake system. Might stay with stock 240 calipers just so I can get this thing back on the road. I'm having Z withdrawl!@! Also need 5 lug hubs and then of course new wheels.

Also pondering the idea of some 03 Cobra wheels. 17x10.5 out back and 17x9 up front. The rears do fit by the way, once the 5 lug conversion is done.

Looks awesome! I restored one when I was in high-school, and still miss it. Can you recommend a place to buy a quality starter rebuild car? (i.e. no rust on the critical places)???
