Dash Instrumentation

Instruments for the cockpit have been a concern for some time. Fortunately, after some searching, I have come across a couple of reasonable electronic dash units that would prevent the need to cluge mechanical drive mechanisms for a tachometer and speedometer.

AIM TG-Log Dash
AIM MyChron3 Gold

The MyChron Light TG Log at $500 is the most affordable box that I've found that displays both rpm and speed. I need both functions since I will be driving to rpm at the track and spped on the street. If speed in mph was not needed, AIM Sports builds a more affordable kart dash for $300. The second unit is the MyChron 3 Gold, an automotive targeted unit for $900. The parts to upgrade the more affordable box for datalogging with auxiliary sensors would bring that unit up to the cost of the MyChron 3 Gold, so buying big pays off if the extra capability is really desired. I still have time to decide and time to hope prices keep dropping.

I can really relate to your project! I've been building my own scratch built car for a couple of years and have it street legal now. You are doing a very nice job and I like your design process. I think you should check out the www.locostusa.com/forums/ website. That's where all the like-minded car builders are sharing information. You should also check out my ride - http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2649927
