**Now runnning 10lbs of boost and loving it!**
Welcome to the page of my 1992 Subaru SVX-Turbo.
I saved this car in early June of 2002 from heading to the junkyard. Just having graduated high school i had sold my prized 95 GS-T eclipse and had bought a boring 92 honda accord to get back and forth to school reliably(as mint as my car was, its still a DSM!) The SVX had 165k miles on it with all the typical SVX ailments. The transmission was on its way out along with the flex plate being broken, the rotos were warped, and the bearings where loud. Having had an SVX before the honda, i decided it would make a good project car, and couldnt pass it up for the price. the engine however ran very strong.
with the transmission out, it was a perfect candidate for a 5spd converions(the SVX was only realesed with an 4EAT automatic) The car was retrofitted with a 5spd out of a 2003 Forester 4.11 Transmission and install kit from Smallcarperformance.com I drove the car for a while before taking its first performance le
ap. At 182k miles on the engine i installed an NOS Powershot kit, with 50, 60, and then 80 shot jets. Without fail, the engine held fine. The ACT clutch however was a differnt story. By the end of 2004 the clutch, after just a few thuosands miles of abuse, was toasted. With a slight knock in the motor and a fried clutch i decided to take the next step. I replaced the motor with a low milage unit and installed an RPS 405 ft/lb street/strip full faced clutch. With an even lighter pedal and higher clamping force, this clutch has taken all the abuse i can throw at it, and rarely ever stinks.
Heres were it got interesting. The shop i bring my car to is owned by a good friend of mine from high school. Being surrounded by turbocharged hondas, supras, and other fast cars i naturually felt my car lacking with only 230 stock hp and even with the 80 shot i was left in the dust. About this time a new company was coming on the SVX scene. ECUtune Inc (www.ecutune.com) released its first engine module for the SVX. With little aftermarket, ECUtune took the SVX under its wing and furthered their support for the SVX with many revisions, finally comeing to the 1v4 software that took my car to a 14.59@95 with exhuast and other basic goodies N/A. The nitrous switch was not function when i had ran the car at the track, so no nitrous times, but i dont think they would have been that much lower as the dryshot really wasnt making all that much power.
ECUTune has since released a whipple based supercharger kit. With that kit(stage 3) came my key to success. The engine our car uses is a JECS based 16 bit proccesor, very similiar to the Z32 300zx's. The Stock SVX Mass airflow sensor was basically maxed out with the stock output of the motor, so ECUtune programmed in the z32 MAF to run in the SVX. With the capabilities to read 400hp worth of air properly now, They released software to the tune of Stage 2v5 which utilized the z32 maf and extended the range of the stock injectors. It also has a second set of code with 5 degrees less base timing and no secondary advance. Perfect for a turbo SVX
So with the proper software to feed my hunger for boost, the install began in late 2005. The final product was finished and successfuly boosted early feb, 2006. The car is currently running 3.5lbs of boost on a T3/T04E 57 trim turbocharger. it will go to 6lbs in spring, and from there will see how fuel treats me before i make anymore decisions. The car is quite fast. Even with 3.5lbs of boost it feels like steriods have been injected, and the sound of an external dump 3.3Liter turbo is menacing. The car is currently running on the rich side, diaphrams have been ordered my vortech fmu, and i will tune it to 6lbs come spring.
I will update the site later with a parts list as well. But here are some pictures of the fabriciation/install and the final product.
