I bought this car for $150 bucks from a local wrecking yard. This is a very rare '89.5 Subaru RX in the black/gold scheme, EA82 turbo and a 4EAT automatic. Only in '89 were these produced in this color. These first few pics are when I went to the wrecking yard to look at it and I fell in love.

They delievered it to my house one morning and I started work on it immediently. I noticed it needed a new waterpump and once I replaced it, I got into a world of trouble. Turns out, it had two cracked heads and two blown headgaskets from being over heated. Time to work. While I had the engine out, I decided to do a few minor upgrades to it. Such as a WRX TD04 turbo, WRX top mount intercooler and the corresponding pieces to go with them

I also decided to add in a few electronic items as well such as a GReddy Profec II B-spec electronic boost controller and matching turbo timer, and a new Pioneer DEH-P7700MP stereo.

Now after doing a complete 5-lug conversion using parts from a '95 Impreza wagon and a '90 XT6, I can now put WRX rims on my car, plus I have a wide variety of brake upgrades to choose from as well. I put a stock RX bodykit on it, a set of almost mint checkered seats from a '85 GL-10 turbosedan parts car, full 5-speed conversion with the RX manual Full Time 4wd dual range transmission, short throw shifters and a B&M shift handle. I modified a WRX 3 gauge a-pillar pod to work and now have a full set of Autometer Sport Comp gauges inlcuding a boost (30vac/30boost) gauge, A/F ratio gauge and a EGT gauge. Also a custom steering wheel with custom made hub adapter. Here are some pics of it taken this last summer when I rolled it out of the shop for the first time in 6 months.

I now have about $5000 into this project. I have also included since the most recent pics were taken last summer, a spyder intake from an '88 XT, custom AEM cold air intake, Megan Racing downpipe, Delta 260 street cams plus many more modifications and extras. Plans are to build a new engine since the current one is a stock EA82T 7.7:1 compression ratio. The new engine will inlclude copper headgaskets, O-ringed heads and block, port matched intake and exhaust, TWE header, 9:1 compression ratio with balanced bottom end, headstuds, plus many many more extras. More pics can be found at http://community.webshots.com/user/caboobaroo under the 1989 RX folder. Enjoy!

Update: 3-22-06
Finally got the intercooler installed with new pieces. Also got it running but have yet to get a new catback for it so the 3" downpipe is loud, plus you can hear the turbo spool very easy. Check out the pics I got a couple weeks ago

5/26/06 UPDATE!
Well I toasted te engine I had in it. I believe the oil pump went out but don't know why. Fortunatly, this engine internal was all stock. Now I have a carbed EA82 engine sitting in my garage which is getting the treatment done to it. 9:1 compression ratio, Cometic copper headgaskets, O-ringed block and heads, new oil and water pumps, Delta 260 street cams, full port and polish on a new set of heads, lightenend flywheel, plus all the bolt on parts I have already added.

Hey, I'm buying a 1988 Subaru RX in the near future and plan on putting a intake, exhaust, and lower it. At the moment I plan on custom fabricating a exhaust but am having problems finding a intake, and suspension kit for it. If you could help with either advice or some places where i can buy parts that would greatly appreciated. My email is hockeytheif13@yahoo.com Thanks

This car is no longer with us. I blew a third engine and strip it to a shell before sending it off to the crusher. If anyone needs help with any conversions like what I did on this car, check out www.ultimatesubaru.org and there's more crazy Subaru people there that can help. Thanks -Russ-

Hey nice ride! My father (subdaddy) had writen before about my 88 rx. I am now wondering how to connect my maf to the intake of the td04. Do I need the xt intake spider first?

EA82 has problems with leaky oil pump seals, causing lifter knock and eventual pump failure. If you ever ditch the factory wing I'll take it off your hands... I actually need one as we speak for an '88 I'm doing with an EJ22. Peace!
