SHIFTER IS NOW INSTALLED AND FUNCTIONAL.

3/26/08:
AFTER THE CAR'S INITIAL SHAKEDOWN RUN OF 15.7 @ 90.22 MPH, I DECIDED TO START TUNING THE CARBURETOR AND IGNITION. BEST RUN OF THE NIGHT WAS 14.406 @ 94.76 MPH. THE CAR BOGS OFF THE LINE BAD AND WAS RUNNING OUT OF FUEL AT THE TOP END. THE IGNITION TIMING IS NOT CORRECT EITHER...

4/17/08:
CAR STILL HAS ISSUES WITH FUEL SYSTEM AND TIMING. RUNNING OUT OF FUEL AROUND 4800 RPM. WITH MORE CARB TUNING THE BEST RUN OF THE NIGHT WAS 14.249 @96.14 MPH.

5/15/08: REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND DISTRIBUTOR. PERFECTED THE IGNITION TIMING. FUEL PUMP DIDNT SOLVE FUEL DELIVERY PROBLEM AND THE CAR STILL RUNS OUT OF FUEL AROUND 4800 RPM. BEST RUN OF THE NIGHT WAS A REPEATABLE 13.987 @ 99.87 MPH WITH MAJOR FUEL PROBLEMS. I WILL KEEP TRYING TO HUNT DOWN THE SOURCE...

5/19/08: I PULLED MY FUEL TANK AND REPLACED THE BUSTED UP FUEL SOCK WITH AN INLINE FUEL STRAINER. BLEW THE FUEL LINE OUT WITH COMPRESSED AIR. BOUGHT NEW CARBURETOR WHICH SHOULD BE HERE BY FRIDAY. NEXT 1/4 MILE RUN SHOULD BE ON 5/29/08...

TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHASSIS DYNO TODAY. CARBURETOR IS VERY RICH TO SAY THE LEAST. 11.6 TAILPIPE AIR/FUEL RATIO AT WOT. THE FUEL LINE FROM THE TANK TO THE PUMP IS TOO SMALL AND THE FUEL PRESSURE DROPS TO ZERO UPON WOT. CAR STILL MADE 228 RWHP AT 4200 RPM AND 275 RWTQ WITH ABOUT 0.5 PSI FUEL PRESSURE. I ALREADY CHANGED OUT THE FUEL PUMP AND I AM CHANGING THE FUEL LINE THIS WEEKEND. I AM PULLING THE SECONDARY POWER VALVE AND PLUGGING THE CHANNEL UP. I WILL BUY A JETTING KIT AND EXPECT DYNO RESULTS WITHIN THE COMING WEEKS...

I'VE DECIDED AGAINST GOING BACK TO THE DYNO PLACE IN FAVOR OF PURCHASING AN LM-1 AIR FUEL RATIO METER. I STARTED BY OPENING UP THE CARB AND BLOCKING OFF THE REAR POWER VALVE AND GOING UP 7 JET SIZES FROM A 75 JET TO AN 82 JET. THEN I OPENED UP THE PRIMARY METERING BLOCK WHERE I FOUND A WRONG SIZE POWER VALVE (8.5) AND 72 JETS. I LEFT THE 72 JETS IN AND I PUT A 6.5 POWER VALVE IN. I ALSO REPLACED THE PUMP CAM WITH A LARGER ONE (BLUE) AND I TIGHTENED UP THE ACCELERATOR PUMP ARM AND SET BOTH FUEL BOWLS. I THEN STARTED TUNING MY IDLE. I WENT FROM A CRAZY SPIKEY PIG RICH MIXTURE TO A SMOOTH 14.2 AVERAGE AFR. TAKE A LOOK AT MY CURRENT AFR GRAPH: (THIS IS NOW OLD DATA)

I STARTED INSTALLING THE NITROUS KIT. I ASSEMBLED AND PUT THE PLATE ON. WHILE I HAD THE CARB OFF I NOTICED MY PRIMARY THROTTLE BLADES WERE WAY PAST THE .020 RECOMMENDATION. I RESET THEM AND OPENED UP THE SECONDARY BLADES TO COMPENSATE. I WILL START OVER WITH TUNING THE CARB BECAUSE ON MY FIRST ROAD TEST I HAD A 18:1 AFR BOG OFF THE LINE AND MY JETTING WAS RICH. THE CAR FEELS LIKE A SLUG SO I AM GOING TO TRY THE PAPERCLIP TRICK TO MAKE SURE MY SECONDARIES ARE OPENING. I ALSO INSTALLED THE REGULATOR AND PLUMBED UP THE FUEL LINE TO THE FUEL SOLENOID. I WILL START THE WIRING OF THE SOLENOIDS SOON.

VERIFIED SECONDARY OPERATION. I LOCKED OUT MY IGNITION TIMING TO 40 DEGREES AND TRIED USING A BLUEPRINTED HOLLEY 4555 CARB OFF A 11 SECOND CAMARO WITH A 50CC ACCELERATOR PUMP AND A .037 SQUIRTER. CAR STILL HAS A LEAN SPOT, AND THAT CARBURETOR'S JETTING WAS REAL RICH. MY CONVERTER IS WAY TOO TIGHT. IT IS A 12 INCH 2400 STALL AND ITS WAY TOO TIGHT FOR MY CAR. I AM IN THE MARKET FOR A 3500 9.5 INCH CONVERTER. I AM ALSO TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO REROUTE MY HEATER HOSES BECAUSE THEY ARE HEATING UP MY FUEL WAY TOO MUCH. BOTTLE IS MOUNTED IN THE TRUNK AND THE GROUNDS FOR THE SOLENOIDS ARE HOOKED UP.

RAN INTO A BUNCH OF PROBLEMS INCLUDING A SHIFTER THAT WAS OUT OF ADJUSTMENT, A FUEL LEAK AND A VOLTAGE PROBLEM. I SOLVED EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE VOLTAGE PROBLEM. I WILL BE TESTING THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR TODAY.

AFTER TRYING A NEW ALTERNATOR IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ONE OF THE WIRES TO MY ALTERNATOR IS GROUNDED OUT SOMEWHERE SO I RAN A WIRE FROM MY IGNITION COIL TO THE VOLTAGE SENSING TERMINAL AND NOW I HAVE POWER. I WILL FINALLY BE TAKING THE CAR TO THE TRACK TODAY TO GET SOME TESTING DONE.

PUT MY NEW 750 DOUBLE PUMPER CARB ON THE ENGINE TODAY AND BEGAN TUNING. JETTING WAS 74/84 AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE PRIMARIES ARE A BIT LEAN. I STILL HAVE TO PLAY WITH MY ACCELERATOR PUMP CAMS AND SQUIRTERS BECAUSE I STILL HAVE A BOG. NEW PICTURES SOON...

AFTER FINDING OUT MY TIMING WAS WAY RETARDED I ADVANCED IT 10 DEGREES AND MADE A PASS. NEW BESTS ARE: 12.994 @ 102.04 WITH A 1.76 60 FT. BEST 60' OF THE NIGHT WAS 1.75. THE CAR HAS A FEW MORE TENTHS IN IT, AS MY JETTING WAS RICH AND I HAD A HESITATION OFF IDLE. THE CAR FELT PRETTY FLAT IN THIRD GEAR THRU THE TRAPS. I BELIEVE I CAN MUSTER A 1.6X 60' WITH SOME TUNING AND A 12.7 PASS NEXT TIME OUT.

I TESTED THE HEADS ON THE ROAD AND ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW. THE CAR BURNS THE TIRES ALL THROUGH 1ST AND 2ND GEAR, AND IT HOOKS IN 3RD. I PULLED A PLUG AND CHECKED THEM, SINCE MY LM-1 NEEDED TO BE RECALIBRATED, AND MY JETTING IS VERY LEAN. I UPPED THE JETS 4 SIZED ON THE FRONT AND REAR. NOW I AM AT 76/84. I AM GOING TO TEST THE CAR AT SOME POINT TODAY. I FINALLY ORDERED THE NEW WHEELS AND SLICKS. THEY SHOULD BE HERE NEXT WEEK. MY NEXT SCHEDULED TRACK VISIT IS 11/23/08. MORE TO COME! MY 12.9 RUN WAS WITH A RACEWEIGHT OF 3605. I JUST WEIGHED THE CAR TODAY AFTER SWITCHING TO ALUMINUM HEADS AND PULLING OUT MY AC EVAPORATOR BOX. 3540 WITH DRIVER. IF YOU FACTOR IN THE WELD WHEELS I HAVE TO PUT ON, REMOVING THE REST OF THE HEATER ASSEMBLY AND HEATER CORE, AND THE BULLET MUFFLERS IM GOING TO, MY NEW RACEWEIGHT SHOULD BE RIGHT AROUND 3480 WITH DRIVER. BULLET MUFFLERS ARE GOING IN TOMORROW, AND I JUST GOT My CE FRONT SHOCKs TODAY THAT I WILL PUT IN OVER THE WEEKEND.

FLOWMASTER MUFFLERS WERE JUST HACKED OFF IN FAVOR OF DYNOMAX ULTRAFLOW BULLETS. THEY SOUND GREAT. ABOUT 10 DECIBELS LOUDER AT IDLE, AND A LOT LOUDER AT WOT. I JUST GOT THE SLICKS AND DRAGLITES AND HAD THEM MOUNTED. IM ALMOST READY TO RACE... NEW ETs FINALLY COMING WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, WEATHER PERMITTING!

well needless to say i wasnt going to go tonight because my car wasnt ready to me. i had not fixed my slight lifter tap and i had not tested my lm-1 (air fuel meter). my buddy really wanted to go try and run the car so we did. when we got there, the track was going to close the lanes in 20 mins. we hurried up and bolted the slicks on. i didnt touch the carburetor or the timing. i wound up running two passes, spinning the slicks both times.

needless to say, im done for this season until i get my front springs/shocks in and my rear suspension set up. theres no sense in trying to tune the timing and carb when im spinning like a son of a B. overall im happy and i am confident the car will do 11s when i hook the LM-1 back up, dial it in and make the changes i want to make. STAY TUNED!

RAN AGAIN TODAY WITH THE NEW SUSPENSION SETUP. MY REAR SHOCKS WERE SET TO FULL SOFT SO MY WEIGHT TRANSFER SUCKED. 1.82 60 FT. STILL HAVENT TOUCHED MY BEST 60 FT OF 1.75 YET... NEW BEST ET 12.504 @ 108.19. STILL HAVENT BEGAN TUNING THE CARB OR TIMING, AND I WONT UNTIL I COME OUT OF THE HOLE RIGHT. I JUST ORDERED A SET OF UMI RELOCATION BRACKETS TO PUT MY INSTANT CENTER BACK AND I AM GRABBING SOME FRONT DRAGLITES. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE BODY OF THE CAR FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS. THE PASSENGER FENDER RUST AREA WAS PATCHED WITH A REPLACEMENT PANEL FROM EBAY. THE FIT WAS NICE. I SANDED THE ENTIRE CAR DOWN TO BARE METAL WITH THE HELP OF MY COUSIN NICK AND FRIEND ANDREW. I PUT THE CAR IN ETCHING PRIMER, AND THEN 2K PRIMER. IT IS IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW GETTING PAINT. PICTURES WILL BE HERE VERY SOON. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING, BUT THE CAR DESERVES IT, AND I WILL RESUME RACING SOMETIME WITHIN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. yea i didn't understand that whole deal but w/e i'm not worried about cams n' stall converters... i got my money all ready for that rear so i kno spring break is gonna be fun as hell putting it in!!!! we gotta find a day to take the trip up
