PORSCHE 968 PROJECT
The reason I want to do the Turbo S stuff before the other mods...as a Turbo S replica, I can still sell the car with a certain collector value. Which I will do if a deal on a nice 968 comes along.
The 968 is awesome...everything that made the 951 great, more modern and advanced. 6-spd, VarioCam, 3.0L 16V...and round headlights, to look like a proper Porsche.
I'm looking for a silver-on-black or silver-on-gray 6-spd coupe. Brakes, wheels, tires, suspension, interior bits from a 944 all fit on the 968, but because the engine is not turbocharged (they only made 15 of those, and 4 racecars), it's harder to unlock the power. Basic upgrades only get you to about 300 hp...you can get it turbocharged, but that takes a full engine rebuild (because it wasn't turbocharged from the factory, the 968, unlike the 951, didn't have forged engine internals) to make sure it can handle the power. PowerHaus.com sells several engine packages, ranging from 350 to 450 hp, and Ninemeister in the UK has successfully supercharged the 968 for less money than a turbo build. Something to think about...
I've also always liked the '87 and later 928s...they were very well-sorted cars, heavier but with a freakin' V8, on the far side of 300 hp!
My dream is to one day own a matching pair of 968, 6-spd coupe silver on black and 928, 5-spd coupe black on gray, with Veloce XS wheels (black for the 968 and silver for the 928), Recaro racing seats, a range of performance enhancements, onboard electronics including GPS navigation, performance computer, radar detector and multimedia stereo, and both cars fitted with the hood scoop from a Ferrari 550 (click here to see what I mean)...just have to cut out the center section including the scoop, cut a same-shape piece out of the Porsche hood, and then weld the Ferrari piece in.
Wishful thinking...
