Hypertech Power Programmer III (PN 30019) Review
The Hypertech Power Programmer, once I finally "figured it out", actually ended up being a very nice upgrade for the money. It took me a while mostly because the tests I was running with the Hypertech were back-to-back switches, without giving the engine computer enough time to reset. I found that, through a lot of experimentation, at least an hour of wait time after the engine computer is set is necessary for the computer to get used to the new settings. After I found this out, all of my times with the Hypertech got significantly better. The first time I truly tested the Hypertech on my Blazer stock, I used redline shift points and the 87 octane power tuning (while running premium fuel). Here were my results:
18.22 @ 73.4
17.41 @ 78.7
17.37 @ 78.2
17.17 @ 80.6
Avg with stdev: 17.54 sec +- 0.46
I figure that the first run was so bad because the computer still had not completely set. Once it did, the speeds were decently consistent. These were my times from before, when I would set the Hypertech Power Tuning and then immediately do the run:
18.15 sec @ 73.3 MPH
17.97 sec @ 74.3 MPH
17.72 sec @ 76.8 MPH
17.95 sec @ 74.9 MPH
17.94 sec @ 75.1 MPH
Avg and stdev: 17.95 sec +- 0.15
These numbers were significantly worse than stock, and really left me scratching my head. Once I found out that it needed time to set, I began seeing really great results from it. I dropped approximately 3/10 of a second off my stock quarter mile from this upgrade alone. I would highly recommend it...
