This is my father's 1973 VW Thing. This is the 3rd one he has owned and he has had this one since about 81ish.

My father put in a rebuilt engine in 1990 and it still runs......sometimes. As any old engine it has its points of being out of tune and runnign rough. With the new engine, he installed a beetle transmission, so the gearing is higher.

For improved drivability, The car was converted to discs up front. The hubs are 4 lug now but the stopping power is much improved.

Most everything else is just for looks. To give the thing a more agressive, off road look, a 3" 'Up Your Bug' body lift was added along with larger tires(I forget the sizes). The '74 style 'cowls' (things above the rear fenders) were added cause they look better.

I Dig the lift kit. Where did you get it? I'm buying a Thing here. Those "cowls" help mitigate the amount of dust and dirt that ends up in the motor compartment. Very Good Idea. Check the pics I uploaded on my Van Site. Peace
