well, going to use this page to show off my brother's 1973 Nova Custom .

this one is our 'pride and joy', the only one that really got 'finished' - they never truly are, but this is darn close :-)

SailorAL's 1973 Chevrolet Nova

He bought the car in 1990 while stationed in San Diego.
A nice, clean 350,2 bbl auto with new seat covers. Pic Above.

did have one minor fender bender requiring a grille and front bumper, which we replaced whil my dad and myself were out to visit in Oct 1990.

here they are changing the bumper with a 3/8" drive ratchet... NOT FAIR !,if it was a NY car we'd have had to cut it apart.

with American Racing wheels and minor damage

well, motor went a year or so later, so a shortblock crate motor was purchased, and he installed in at the base 'hobby shop', since it would not pass CA emissions, we liscensed it in NY and mailed the plates and stickers on out there :-)

well, drove it home before he left for Desert Storm, and we started tearing it down.
Myself and Dad did most of the work while my bro was in the middle east, and he kept checks coming to buy parts.

car was totally disassembled down to a bare shell with subframe and rear ( the only item we've never had out was the 10 bolt rearend, sometime we have to pull that, replace the spring bushings with urethane and instal the 3:42 Richmond gear set and posi unit ).
new Urethane subframe bushings were installed, and the front end refurbished (stock disc brakes).

we tore the 350 4 bolt back apart (motor has 3000 miles on it ,most from drive from CA to NY), and added a cam, roller rockers, weiand intake and a 650 edelbrock carb, nothing overpowering, but an honest 300-325 HP makes for nice cruising.
the Headers fit very tight with the factory A/C hooked up and when we redo the car,it will get stock manifolds.
Blackjack headers (coated) feed a Flowmaster cross-flow muffler system, which has good sounds and ground clearance as well .

Car was stripped to bare metal, and painted with Deltron Concept 2020 basecoat / clearcoat in the original dark red (paint code 74), with Corvette White Chevelle SS stripes.
Hood is a harwood pin-on cowl hood,as the steel hoods were not available yet (another update to make later).
Also had the white vinyl top replaced.

Being very careful, we reassembled with all new weatherstripping, gaskets, etc.
New marker light bezels, emblems, cleaned and polished all the window trim, hood trim, etc to like-new shine.

The interior is basically stock bench seat with recovered (velour) headliner, repro carpet, and cleaned up or replaced pieces as needed - door panels, trim, etc.

One thing we did was to try to add as many options as we could, so in went a late 70's Nova tilt column.
A small (Chris Craft boats surplus,by Stewart) mini-tach was bolted right onto the - drilled and tapped - steering column, eliminating the hose-clamp look, nice and clean.
Also added factory rear defogger, 1976 Nova delay wipers, and a Clarion tuner / head unit (dash needed cutting, sorry to the purists) with Rockford Fosgate equilizer
That feeds a Pyramid Gold Series 2 channel amp which powers the two front mount 4" Pioneer speakers ,mounted in the factory A/C kick-panels (no vents)
A Rockford Fosgate amp in the trunk feeds the 6 x 9 Pioneer speakers on the rear deck, and the single 10" Pyle sub in custom band-pass box
Trunk was repainted in repro splatter paint, along with custom amp mounts on the backside of the seat bulkhead, and carpeted speaker boxes.

Car's been a lot of fun to drive, and even took a couple second place tophies (no 1st,maybe next time around).

Unfortunately it was rear-ended in a hit and run (while moving), doing significant damage to the driver side quarter and rear panel (which showed up the underneath rust).
The culprit was caught and an insurance settlement was to help with the restoration.

Unfortunately the funds went towards my brothers tuition payments at RIT, so the car was parked, awaiting a complete rebuild, for the second time.....

current plans call for fixing the damage as well as some NY rust that's setting in ,steel cowl hood to replace the Harwood, and a mild 383 with stock exhaust manifolds, again with full factory A/C, etc ... it's a driver, not a racer, that's what he has the SS car for (more on that later ) .

sory, I don't have any photos of the restoration work, but completed and detail pics on next page.

Nice project. Sorry to see it's just setting for now. I think I'd keep the stripes if it were me? They add style to the car in my book.
Good luck with it. Later.
