Thom's wife Jessica bought the car new in early '96. She competed in sound quality competitions for a few years, beginning in '98 when she won IASCA finals in her Novice 1- 150 Sound Q and Sound Q plus classes. She later competed in IASCA's Pro Ultimate 1- 300 watt class and got 5th place at the '01 and '02 IASCA finals. The car remains a daily driver and has over 165,000 miles on it.

The original motor is out of the car and a K20A3 from an '03 Si is now powering the car. The motor is mounted with Hasport's EKK2 mounts. Hasport swap axles, AEM fuel rail, fpr, fuel filter, hybrid intake, DC header, and Mishimoto radiator with slim fan were used to get the K to fit. More pics of the swap are near the bottom of the page.

SR tweeters and 2" mids (from home speakers that resemble the SRs) are in the a- pillars. With some time alignment from the Zapco DSP-6 it sounds great from the driver's seat. SR 6500 mids are in the kicks for midbass.

The K20A3 sitting and waiting for the swap, and the donor- Polk's old show car. It went to Europe last Fall and we had to make sure it couldn't be driven. So out came the K20A3 and in went a bad motor and trans. The motor had less than 1,000 miles on it, so the '96 hatch should be on the road for a while.

Under the hood was a different color from the factory (it was a flatter version of the exterior color). I tried to touch up the paint under the hood, but it wasn't a very good match. So everything came out (brake lines and booster, all grommets, etc.)  and the engine bay was painted the same base/ clear as the exterior.

KW coilovers allow height adjustability at each corner. Up front are SPC adjustable upper arms to make sure the camber isn't out of control.
