PLANS FOR MY RIDE:
I started out wanting to fix this car up. That IS the reason that I bought another Neon in February 2009. I paid $3500 cash for this car. I wasn't really wanting a white car, but at the time I wasn't having much luck in my "Neon Search". Me and my wife were living in Lincoln NE at the time and we were driving this awful 88 Lincoln Town Car. The thing was a complete beast! We had tax money and I wanted another Neon. I owned a 98 Dodge Neon R/T sedan from December 2001 - August 2005. Having owned a Neon R/T before, I knew I wanted the DOHC engine. Its power output is the better of the 2 engines offered in 1st gens (150HP @ 6500RPMS). I wanted a manual transmission car but settled for an automatic. The automatic shifts really good. I installed the Prothane solid race mounts, which make the shifting feel more solid. At some point my wife may want to drive it and she doesn't like the idea of manually shifting all the time. It doesn't bother me all that much not having a manual I guess.
My wife called around to some dealerships in Lincoln and found this 98 Plymouth Neon Expresso for sale at Sid Dillon Buick/Nissan/Hyundai. They wanted $4000 for the car and I told them that was way too much, so the deal was eventually settled at $3500. I wrote the check and the car was ours. Still probably too much for the car since my most recent check of blue book puts the car at like $1800. The Neon had 80,809 miles on it when I bought it. I post the current mileage on this page whenever I come to update things.
I was thinking about selling the car, as I have no money to fix the car up to my liking right now. I even had it for sale on here for a little bit, but decided to just keep it. I figure when I get some money I can decide then if I want to keep the car and fix it up, like I originally planned, or just trade it in on something else.
The car needs a new paint job. I would love to have the car painted another color, other than plain white. Some dents on the body will need some smoothing out. Some jerk kicked in my driver's side fender not long after I put the steel Z3 fenders on. Haters know where to go. I removed the plastic vent insert and my brother pushed most of the dent out by hand, but it will need some body work yet to make it straight. The car really doesn't have that much rust on it. A spot below the rear passenger's side door needs some attention. As does a dent in the rocker panel below the rear driver's side door. I want to get a trunk lid that's free of a spoiler. I don't like the spoiler on the car. I took it off 3 different times, only to put it back on for the time being.
I bought a set of Gold Line lowering springs a year before I even had this car and by the time I got them put on the car I realized they were complete junk. The rear raised up like an inch and the front slammed like 2 1/2 inches. The whole car was supposed to be slammed but the springs were discontinued and I couldn't return them. I will probably go with Eibachs when I have the money or just resort to the stock springs, which I still have. The car needs new struts in the rear for sure, so I won't change the springs until there's money to buy struts.
** All 4 tires are in need of replacing
** Struts need replaced
** Car needs a wheel alignment
** My radiator (which was replaced right after I bought the car) is seeping antifreeze for some reason (?!)
** ...So, the radiator is going to need some attention or replacing (again! ugh!)
** I want to replace the exhaust
** New wheels
** Window tinting, smoke out stock tail lights
