Gambit22's 1977 Pontiac Firebird

This is my 1977 Firebird Formula. It is definitely a project,so I'll list all the things wrong with it first:

-> Needs transmission work (stops working when engine gets hot, maybe a rebuild or catalytic converter problem).

-> Needs a few hoses and assorted parts to pass smog. (carburetor problems.)

-> Suspension needs work.

-> T-tops/Doors need to be re-weatherstripped.

-> Interior needs carpet, dash, headliner work.

-> Body is good except for the front driver quarter fender. Will probably need replacing.

-> Engine rebuild is next on the list!

-> Needs paint.

Hopefully I'll have the beast up and running soon, then I'll restore while I drive.

-------------First Peter 5:10-------------
"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."

Took the bird out for a spin today with my incredible girlfriend (she's an F-body fan too!!! Lucky me :)!!!)

Anyway, it's running okay, but here's the scoop on maintenance: I'll need to have the exhaust line/catalytic converter worked on, as it's definitely leaking CO. This is probably related to the overheating problem. Suspension is crying out to me for a rebuild. Steering is awesome. T-Tops are the best invention since the V-8. My girlfriend is a more fun driver than I am (I cringe when she takes corners so fast!). I still haven't gassed it all the way, but I've gone about halfway down on the pedal, and it was FAIR on torque. Keep in mind that 2 of my 4 carb. barrells are disconnected. Anyway, I love this car and it has GREAT potential. Can't wait to get it street-worthy!

Here's a new pic of the nose for yall.

My uncle is staying with us for a few weeks and he is helping to work on the car a little bit. He fixed up the carb. with parts from a junk one he found at a swap meet. So now, I've gotta get it ready for smog, repair the leak in the exhaust line, and fix the transmission problem and it'll be ready to roll. It won't be anywhere near what I want it, but at least it'll be driveable. I'll still need suspension work, brake work, and some patching of floorpans and weatherstripping before it'll be in decent daily driver condition. After that I hope to get some body work followed by a nice paint job and formula decals.

Decided to replace the transmission. All I've gotta do now is find one! I'm looking for a used TH350-TH400 in the SoCal area.

In other news, the exhaust line has been repaired, and I've finally got a choke (albeit a manual one). So once the tranny is replaced, I'll be ready to rock!

-------------Updated 5/1/06-------------

I got a new transmission a while ago, and am now in the process of swapping it in. I stripped a bolt on the passenger side of the bellhousing, so that's been a hindrance, but the old should be out this weekend and the new should be coming in soon. Woot.

You have a nice bird yourself. I love the 70's Firebirds. A little later in life, I'm going to see about trying to find a 1978 to restore. Damn good cars. Take it easy.

one more thing. Do make sure to let the Dawn Treader know that you love it and that the Beast II is not replacing its place in your heart. There is some adjustment when a new baby is brought into the car family. OK. Enough motherly advice; we raised you well.

oh, I am the proud grandmother of the Beast II!! How incredible that my boy has two cars! He sees such potential in his automobile, and I find pleasure watching him enjoy his dream car in the making.
