DAY (or month) NUMBER ONE.
December 2005.
This is my newest vehicle.... it's a Japanese import 1992 Rover Mini which was originally fitted with a 1275 injected motor, auto box, 8.4 inch discs, air conditioning, etc etc......
My plans:
To convert this into a "Club Level" race car for entry into the Mini1000 SuperSprint series here in South Australia. The class regulations require this car to be fitted with a 998cc engine, 1.5 carb, 10 inch wheels, and .....believe it or not..... drum brakes all round! The cars are to remain largely unmodified so as to keep the costs down and keep the racing tight. (RACING.... CHEAP???? YEAH SURE!!!)
I am trying to get this looking as close to a UK Mini Miglia race car as I can, within my available budget.

Here is the complete 998cc engine/gearbox I scored for $120. Just needs a new set of rings, a bit of lightening of internal components, hot cam, and a sh1t load of work on the head.
Have budgeted myself about 5 grand for the whole project.

UPDATE January 15, 2006

^^^ Current ride height......................................... and the height it will soon be ^^^ Much better, yes?

UPDATE March 18, 2006
Just picked up some A+ series internals for this A series block...
- A+ 998 crankshaft
- A+ 998 conrods
- Flat top postons (for 10:1 compression ratio)
- A+ 12G202 head with unleaded seats, ported and polished, valve guide bosses removed, chambers deshrouded, double valve springs, face shaved by 2.2mm.... and probably more

Have a look at the modified inlet ports.... completely exposed valve guides, etc etc. It should be good.

Rover A+ 998 flat top pistons on A+ 998 rods. A fair bit lighter than the earlier versions.
And it was a bargain.... of course

UPDATE May 7th, 2006
Not much done, except for the fitment of rear camber brackets.

People keep asking me about my widened wheels, so i've decided to put some pics here to show how wide they are.....
The distance from the outer mounting face to the edge of the rim (a.k.a. DISH) is 90mm or just under 4 inches. My mobile phone sits there quite easily.

These wheels, when fitted over 1 inch stepped drums AND 4mm alloy spacers, are perfectly level with the outside edge of my Group 5 wheel arches.

Just pictures, nothing much changed really.

UPDATE July 20th, 2006
Am working on a motorbike muffler setup. Sourced from a 1998 BMW R1100S, it is all stainless steel with chrome face plates.

^^^Tried it in the centre of the car first, then on the side. I prefer it on the side.

UPDATE October 22nd, 2006
Bought a set of 10x7 alloy wheels which were imported from Japan. These things have LOADS of offset and have increased the track by over an inch on each side of the car. Currently fitted with 165-70-10 Bridgestone street tyres, but will be putting 185mm slicks on them at a later date.

More pics coming as things happen.....
