Like most of my other parts to this car... It came from a friend of mine. He had an unfortunate incident with the car and it caught fire. So as his car died, most of it now lives in my car.

I spent the better part of 3-4 hours cutting off and grinding smooth the old brackets. Then simply welded on the new perches after measuring multiple times... you know the old saying, measure twice, cut once. (I guess you could apply this to welding)

Anyway, here are the pics of the rear end. I trimmed off the ears of the upper mounts also.

I think everything fits great!

3/4" Rear sway bar installed (now things are getting tight)

So now you might ask the burning question... WHY? I had this 8.8" around and I have owned a few fox bodied cars in my past. The 8" is notoriously weak, and the cost of getting a good set of gears greatly outweighed my investment in this rearend. Total, I have $13 in spring perches, $50 in axles and about $30 in fluid, etc. I had the 373 gears laying around so I think my choice was a good one... knowing what they are getting for 9" rears now. Plus, the 8.8's are good into the 400hp range, and I have no plans yet of that kind of power.

FANTASTIC car, clean and classic. both me and my wife like it ! Looks like you take good care of it, Great job !! My car is almost just like it but I finished back in 97, my body parts are from miaer racing and I also did the side scoops. your right about the end caps being hard but I sanded a little at a time and it turned out nice, are you going to put the hood trim on to complete the front? I had to bend mine to form a tight fit and then I fiberglassed it on from under the hood, plus I added the front valance with the radiator opening on it. Check it out and see.

Great job! I'm sure you've inspired many people like myself to start restoring their rusty old ponies. Thanks and all the best!

I have two questions about your 8.8" rear end install. Where did you buy the spring perches and why did you need to replace the axles? Thanks, MustangChuck
