Restoration Fall of 2006
Stripped car to bare metal and replaced rusted floor pans. i also replaced the trunk floor and a portion of the rear frame rail with that from my parts car. Once all of the original spot welds were drilled out, we replaced the panel and re-welded the spot welds. This eliminated the laminated rust in the seams where the metal overlapped. Once the parts were replaced, we re-blasted and then soaked the metal in a green cloured marine based very heavy primer called Interzinc 52. We will put several coats on the car before it is ready and let it settle into the seams.
This is a picture of the hood after the first layer of paint came of with the razor blade. I ended up sand blasting the support structure of the hood, which was a big mistake. It resulted in some warpage to the hood panel itself and i ended up doing approximately 12 hours of blocking to get it straight.
The old quarters were not really that bad but required patching, so I felt that if I was into it this far, I might as well replace them. The inner fenders required minor repairs but turned out quite well.
This photo was taken shortly after the replacement quarter was replaced. It still has to be dollied but the fit was fairly decent on the passenger side. For some reason the driver side required a little bit more work to have it fit properly.
The car is going to be painted a green colour and therefore I sprayed the engine to match. I just don't think the Ford Blue would look right with a green car. The 302 was rebuilt and for the time being will remain a 302 2V and once I get it on the road I may tweak it.
Starting to resemble a car again
night projects include rebuilding/repainting the dash as well as stripping the white lacy spoke wheels.
