Hi. Welcome to Rrroadster Motorsports! This is only my third Miata in...2 years time! My first one, a '95 black and tan, got named "Bad Kahrma" because it seemed to be a trouble magnet - 3 incidents in 5 months (none my fault). Here's the final one.
After I recovered from that incident, I got another '95 in Dec '04. This one was a red base model with AC & PS. I wanted to autocross it in ES, but didn't think it very competitive in it's original form, so I made an R package clone out of it.
That was pretty fun and got me set up for this current project.
I participated in several HPDE's (High Performance Drivers Ed)this year. While a stock Miata holds its own fine in the twisty sections of a road track, it's quite boring on straight aways. You have to let everybody pass you! The more events I went to, the more point bys I had to give. That got me to thinking about building a Forced Induction track dog. By the end of the fall, I had resolved myself to "Deeds, not Words". Time to find another car.
I found a '93 that was for sale within the ranks of my car club(Tarheel Sports Car Club - North Carolina's Premier Motorsports Organization). So...off to the races!
The big picture is as follows:
Replace original 1.6L engine with 1.8L from Bad Kahrma. There are 2 major elements for this activity.
1. Mechanical - Prepare the engine for installation. A transmission swap to go along with the motor will also be made.
2. Electrical - Change out the harnessess and ECU. I have the 1.8 ECU and wiring harnesses from Bad Kahrma.
Get the car running.
Install BR Performance MP62 Hotside. Get the car running again!
The above activities need to be concluded before my first HPDE of 2006. That would be VIR Full Course in mid February.
By the 2nd HPDE of the year in April, I hope to have a complete BR Performance R4 system installed. If not, at least a BR Performance A/A Intercooler. Other engine/drive train enhancements should be in place by then as well.
The third week of Jan '06 is almost over. WooHoo! Milestone accomplished. The 1.8L engine is in the car! It won't be running for a few days as I still have the flywheel, clutch, transmission, starter and...oh yeah, radiator to install, but its starting to come together.
