After owning a large assortment of cars through high school, including a 944 S and a black pile-of-junk 951, I finally purchased this shining example in May 2005. 86k miles, and I bought it from the original owner for $6,000 even. Why so cheap? Well, the previous owner didn't seem to understand that cars, particularly Porsches, need regular maintainance and waxing.
I purchased the car with a cracked up pre-turbo exhaust system (complex and extremely expensive), horribly oxidized paint, warped rotors, and a dirty interior and engine bay. It took a mere two weeks of hard work and a good buff with some pricey 3M chemicals get to its current state.
After patching the cross-over and header pipes three times (a small minority of people in this world have experienced removal of a 951 cross-over pipe), I am now looking into replacements. The car is rather quick, but the age of the wastegate is showing, meaning it will be time for a 38mm Tial in the near future.
The car is quite quick even in stock form, with 0-60 in (depending on who you quote) around 5.9 seconds and a quater mile in (depending on who you quote) 14.5 seconds. What's even cooler is the handling and braking, with 4-piston Brembo calipers on every corner from the factory, and in my car's case, a Koni Yellows (suspension option) and an LSD.

More pictures, next to my sister's boyfriend's M3.

My first Porsche, a 1988 944 S.
