ENGINE CONT.
Above is the right side of the engine where most of the modifications can be found. I am going to start with the electrical.
For about a year I had a custom grounding kit I made myself with 9 wires of different gauge. I finally kicked myself to get the Sun Automobile Hyper Voltage (MultiRange) ($188) and the Sun Automobile Club Lexus Hyper Ground (S-Series) ($115) kits. There is definitely a stronger throttle response. This was further enhanced by tightening the accelerator cord on the throttle body (thanks to Pheonix on Club Lexus for this great idea). I got mine at L-Tuned Parts .
Furthermore, I can get consistent 2.7 60 foot launches at the track with this system. Notice how each grounding wire latches on to each side of their respective clamps. The fifth grounding wire goes to the side negative post where the Hyper Voltage cables go.
If you want some other options for voltage kits (I really only see styling and went with Sun due to good reviews by friends): Kazama Auto Voltage, Buddy Club Racing Spec Condenser and my second choice A'PEXi Super Grounding System.
For wires, it is possible to use fat Monster Cable though with Sun's wires, I know I am getting the best thing possible based on my research.
Where do the negative grounding wires go? Transmission, engine block, brake fluid container harness, old air filter box screw hole and fuse box screw hole. I tried variations and some places were too tough to do.
Ground to the engine block
Ground to the transmission
Ground to the brake fluid container harness
Ground to the old air filter box screw hole
Ground to the fusebox screw hole
I replaced the ground to the transmission and now have the wire going from the top of the transmission (big bronze bolt on top of it) going to the sanded off area on the right that used to hold one of the 10mm airbox bolts. That bolt there on the transmission is a 16 mm bolt. I highly recommend this as it is highly important to keep the grounds from the transmission in good shape.
I also replaced the ground to the fusebox hole and now have that wire going from this 13mm bolt on top of the transmission to one of the old 10mm airbox bolt holes
That black wrap you see around the battery is a small gift from my cousin Carlos from his VR6 to block heat. Not pretty but it works. I temporarily removed the wrap for the moment and will be replacing it soon with another material.
I revised the placement of the Hyper Voltage cables so that they attach to the top terminals. After experimentation with connections to the side and the present placement on top, I get more response with them close to the actual battery cables.
The other mod is the Optima Batteries 34/78 Red Top Battery ($149). Great investment and works wonderfully with the kits from Sun Automobile . It lines up OEM, but even though I did not need to use the platform it came with though I did have to cut the plastic battery cable ties to pull them on to the top of the respective posts. Additionally, my uncle had to modify the clamp to set it right. Interstate batteries in the U.S. is where I found the best price and selection (could not find my size battery at Costco when I checked), but see optimabatteries.com for more information. If you want something a lot lighter in weight with a lot of power, try Braille Batteries .
