After blowing two standard engines up, the second putting out 341rwhp at the wheels before chipping an apex seal, I decided to rebuild the engine strong. 3mm seals were used and porting and dowelling was done. A few turbos were tried including a T04, T3 and the series 5 hiflow. The small intercooler was sold and a big custom one as big as could fit was put in. The previous intercooler was hitting 80-90 degrees inlet temps drag racing crossing the 1/4 mile line and had to be changed. Inlet temps dropped from 70's to mid 20's.
Wolf 3d replaced the 2d.
A bad stall convertor didnt stop the car from doing 11.9 at 189 kph with the s5 hiflow. The the convertor was changed to a dominator 5000rpm one(stall @ 3200rpm), it worked well and pushed the RX5 to 11.7 at 192 kph.
Then the front nut on the turbo came off and went through the front wheel, the turbo shifted, the exhaust wheel was destroyed and oil passed straight out the exhaust bat-mobile smokescreen style. This happened once on the dyno and once at the track.
I got myself another small TO4, the same one I had on the car before but never raced with. Since then it had a rebuild from the previous owner. It was tuned to 300 HP and also ran a 1/4 mile time of 11.7 seconds just like the series 5 hiflow. Boost on the TO4 could of been turned up more and times could of been lowered a little. But I decided to sell it and go for something more serious,a TA45..
