The engine was fully rebuilt into an extend port and it went alot better. At this time a Rx5 close-ratio 5-speed was tried. The manual with its extra gears gave the Rx5 a little bit more of a hurry up, but it was plagued with electrical problems which became a real pain, so I went back auto with the plans to toughen it up.
Going back auto again convinced me to mod the engine further into a 13B extended bridge port.
With the Rx5 chewing through a few standard autos and an auto not surviving the change to an extended bridge port, I got the gearbox rebuilt and built stronger with a strong valve body and a shift kit and modified standard stall converter, which greatly improved its drivability. Fast shifts and a better takeoff were a result.
With a the auto and still unsatisfactory stall convertor, it was doing low 15 second 1/4 miles and 0-100 in 8 seconds flat. So once you got past the slow take off, it rocketed along.
The suspension had new thicker front/rear sway bars fitted and lower, softer front springs and Peddler gas shock absorbers.
I ending up selling the engine, exhaust, carby for payment towards a 13B Turbo conversion..
