My Suburban came to me as an '83 1/2 ton Suburban 4x4 Stolen recovery, most parts inside the truck, drivetrain disassembled. It was painted and a new 454 put in 2 weeks before it was stolen. when recovered, it was missing the motor, all 4 doors, front clip and seats.
Before I got it the previous owner had put new doors, front clip and seats in it and had it painted again.
After years of faithful service, My Stepside's body had become a casualty of Michigan winters and salted roads and I needed more room for the kids. The Suburban was an obvious choice so the lift and drivetrain swap began....
The drivetrain consist's of '69 350 with Edelbrock cam, intake and 600 carb, TH-350, NP205, large hub 3/4 ton Dana 44 front out of a '72 Suburban w/4:09 and '79 14 bolt full floater w/4:11, 6" front springs, stock rear springs with 6" custom made Traction lift/block, 2" body lift and 38.5" Super Swamper TSL's
Other custom mods I made are Axle trusses, The crossmember for the carrier bearing on the 2 piece driveshaft that features a removable skid plate and driveshaft loop, front driveshaft loop, the trans. crossmember I made and dual shocks at all 4 corners. Anyone who has the factory dual shocks on the front knows they have a tendency to break at the axle. I fixed this with a few well placed gussets. haven't broke them in years of hard wheelin'.
I haven't wheeled the Suburban yet but I'll put pics. up when I do.
Here is the beginning of the interior work. I hate factory gauges so I made some aluminum mounting plates and installed some aftermarket gauges in the dash.
