Box Canyon and the Coke Ovens - February 18,2006

This was the first time out since I completed the lift on the Xterra. Had been out hunting and running forest roads before but this was the first good test. My Mistress performed flawlessly in the early goings of the trip.
Mark did have starter issues at the beginning, but I think I jinxed myself by taking these pictues.
Box Canyon is a beautiful canyon and well worth the drive. It can be done with a stock 4x4, but a bit of lift and good tires definitely helps.

Great senery along the way!

I went out with members and associates of AZXC. Double D and his friend Doug in his Jeep, NOSUP4U, RiNkY, DriverX, and myself, and a tag along crazy guy named Allen in another Jeep.

Roger and his easy button.

Great weather, not many people out on the trail, except for all of the quads and Rino type vehicles. The Coke Ovens are impressive stone structures.

Crossing the Gila River and a group picture.

About half of the way out to the Coke ovens I has a torsion bar front anchor strip out with a loud bang. All of a sudden after that event, I had a bit of a low rider. With a rachet strap or two strategically mounted I made it the rest of the way through to the Coke Ovens and across the Gila River.

I must mention that the torsion bar did not pull out, I did this a trail repair. Although I couldn't actually fix the fact that the torsion bar anchor stripped out. The nut that is loose in the picture was loosened by myself and did not cause the issue.

Check out Gimp My Ride! on page 5. This will now be the repair forum for the Mistress.
