Ok, well, I had a system in my old Bonneville, it was alright, noting amazing, so I thought I would transfer that over to my Formy. Well, had to build a custom box to fit on the shelf behind the back seat because I didnt want to spend $270 on a t-top box from subthump.com that only provided 1.1 cu feet of air space for each sub.
So, After I built the Custom box I put in the subs and the amp. I also installed my head unit and discovered there was already aftermarket speakers from Pyle. I also soon discovered that one of the speakers were blown and all of them sucked ass. I decided to replace those with 6.5" Alpine Type-S speakers that have worked out great.
So First Set up was:
Alpine CDA-9827 w/MP3 playback
4 - 6.5" Alpine Type-S speakers
2 - 12" Pioneer Subwoofers
Pioneer 760w Amp running 125w RMS @ 4 ohm to each sub
Custom Box I made out of 3/4" MDF w/ 1.5 cu ft of air space to each sub in seperate compartments.
It Looked like this:
Pretty soon I wanted more bass with higher quality so I could turn it up louder with no distortion.
I stuck with the same deck and speakers (they were doing fine and werent distorting) and then I chose to run the same amp to save money. I found that I could easily run a pair of JL audio 12" W1s.
I changed the setup of the amp (bridged it) to run 190W RMS @ 4 ohm to each of the subs. I think that the new set up sounds great, and its loud, we had a dB meter that only went to 126 dB and my system topped it out, so I dont know exactly how loud it is. Just my speakers with the subs off hit 110 dB with no distortion, which I think is pretty decent.
New Setup:
Also here is a pic of the tint on the back window, please note that the amp is about 1 inch from the glass and the subs maybe 2 inches, so i think the tint hides them pretty well.
