*Sparky's* story...Written in December 2005...
I saw some people cruising in a Mk1 Golf Cabriolet when I was at college and since then I have always wanted one. I was sure the cabby was for me because on the way home from passing my driving test a while back, a red Sportline cabby was behind me all the way! While walking my dogs a month later, I realised there was this one for sale round the corner from where I live-I couldn�t believe it!
Once in my ownership however a few electrical problems arose (hence the name *Sparky*) � the heater blower and the electric windows both failed at the same time! - *Sparky* was constantly misting up! So my dad and I got a motor from a Mk1 4 door saloon in the scrap yard for a �5, and with some work managed to get it in, so I could now actually see where I was going!! :-) The driver�s side window is now fixed, was simply a faulty connection, but the passenger side still needs work! I then became aware that my cabby sat higher on one side at the front, so with help from my brother we investigated! It turned out that one of the springs wasn�t properly located and one shock was worn, so we corrected it and decided to lower it more to achieve the stance we liked. I may lower it slightly more in the future, then it would be *Sparky* in the other sense, because if sparks don�t fly your too high! :-) The future is on Page 6! ;-)
Although I am only 20, I can say I am driving my dream car, and whatever my cabby needs, it will eventually (�) get-I spoil it! I hope to own a cabby (hopefully this one) all my life, cannot imagine driving another car! Mk1 cabbies are just not like other cars, they are a cult classic and no other car (well not that I've found anyway!!) makes you smile so much when driving-they are great! :-)

As you can see, *Sparky's* got a standard 1.8. I am more than happy with the power, it has surprised a few motorists!! May mod. *Sparky's* engine in the future though, when it needs replacing and when I can afford the insurance for it!
