Part III... The Build Up

This is what came back from the Blaster.
When the frame came back, I spent the next two weeks (about 2 hours a day) filling in all the holes in the outside of the frame, and grinding down all the welds. (no pic available)
After grinding down all the welds... which took forever, I proceeded to the fun part... body filler (duraglass, bondo, icing) you know all the stuff that smells really good, and makes your garage look like a cocaine factory exploded in it. (no pics of that either) It took another 4 weeks (about 2 hours a day) to get the frame smoothed. (below)
Since it is a show truck... NOT a trailer queen, eventually it going to be judged, so everything had to be smoothed, so wherever there were pits from rusting... it had to be filled. Even the areas we thought we wouldn't be able to see we filled, just in case.

The black you see on the frame is Por-15... good stuff!
Its about this time I started mocking up the rear suspension. We made some changes from the original KP Cantilever/4Link kit. We went to the 20in upgrade, which has a bigger/stronger gas tank cross member, and longer 4 link bars to accomdate more wheel travel. (
below)

I painted the rest of the frame with Por-15 then ground away an area for the Rounded Step Notch (courtesy of suicidedoors.com). I also had the KP Components Cantilever/4-Link painted to match the truck. (Left)

The right pic is tucking the axle... we did the math, and if we could recess the bags into the frame, and make some smaller adjustments, we could do 24's for sure and still lay. That's how big the notch is.
Here's a couple of the notch and rear suspension.
