Misc information and pictures

Here are some pictures of the engine and notes of interest that I have found.

Notice that there is nothing covering the lifter valley. The Viper block has it cast into it. This is a Gen 2 viper block below (cross-bolt mains haven't found Gen 1 pics). The Gen 1 Viper block weighs about 130lbs less than my Magnum block.

Also note that the thermostat housing is cast into the viper block, but the housing is cast into the lower intake manifold on the iron block.

PokeyRT's 2001 Dodge Durango Good news for my project the Viper Intake will fit! PokeyRT's 2001 Dodge Durango Just need to build a lifter valley/adapter tray. This will drastically reduce the number of turns the air must make to enter the heads.
PokeyRT's 2001 Dodge Durango Not to mention the weight reduction and removal of the EGR.

Here is a picture showing the size difference between the V-10 Magnum and the Gen 3 Viper Rod/piston.

Very similar to the Magnum Iron heads.

Here are some pictures dipicting the differences between the Viper and the Magnum Crankshaft.

The bottom crank is the magnum and the top is the Viper.  Total length is almost identicle.  The front main is wider on the magnum so the timing chain is a single instead of a double roller.  The rear main is wider on the magnum so the flexplate mounting point is thinner on it compared to the Viper's.

Here is the difference in the reluctor ring.

Below shows the differences in the camshafts between the two.  The only main difference is how the cam journals get smaller front to back.  The first and last journals are wider.  The Viper's cam lobes are slightly wider (both use the same roller rocker size though) and uses three bolts instead of one.

These pictures may give other Magnum V-10 owners an idea of what could be done to their trucks without as much modification as I am planning on mine.
