Progress on Stage 2 (V-10 performance rebuild)

I have torn the engine down to the long block as of Sept. 30th 2007.

November 26, 2007
The Gen 3 Viper heads are in and they fit well. Some slight modifications for cooling and they will work perfectly. Here are some comparison pictures of them compared to factory iron.
PokeyRT's 2001 Dodge Durango PokeyRT's 2001 Dodge Durango The Gen 3 Viper head is on the left and the Iron head is on the right. See how "short" the iron heads are and they still weigh 40lbs more per side unassembled.
PokeyRT's 2001 Dodge Durango Notice how much higher up the intake port is on the Viper heads. That is part of the reason of the 65cfm difference. Not shown is the larger intake valves that help create the additional flow (page 2).
PokeyRT's 2001 Dodge Durango Here is a close up showing how the increased deck height (compared to Viper's) created a gap between the intake manifold and the heads. A spacer between the two will "fill the gap".

Oct 13th 2007, the engine is now completely disassembled.

There is about a quarter of an inch difference between the iron cast crank and the Gen 3 Viper's. With a custom billet crank it makes the sky the limit in what I can dream up in stroke and rod design.

Here are the pictures of my 3.75" Custom Billet crank:

Alot easier to have cruise when it is already on the SRT-10 Quadcab's. The Gen 3's intake has straighter runners.

Block Grinding

I have started grinding on the block to remove casting marks and improve the flow of oil back to the oilpan.

Darton Sleeve

2/16/2009

I received the block back from the machinist today.  The sleeves will fit.  Still a few finalized measurements will need to be done.  Then saving up all of the money.  Here is a picture of the block overbored to 4.395" and a picture comparing it to the stock 4.00" beside it.

Individual Throttle Bodies
eXtrudeabody makes excellent TBs for custom applications. These would work perfectly within a custom plenum for the perfect "clean" look in the engine bay.
