Engine Mods - i'm going to progress this in reverse, from newest to oldest.
As of Feb. '09, i think i've spun another bearing. i have no luck, right? i replaced a broken valve spring and the whole lifter set, thinking those might be the noise, but it's still there and getting worse. So, i've decided to upgrade again, to the LX9, aka the 3500. better designed heads and intakes, cast steel crank rather than iron, oil squirters on #5 & #6 for better cooling, and some other little stuff. it'll cost me some $$$ but it will be worth it once it's ready to go. Having the heads ported, and a cam, just like the old motor, but this one only has about 30k on it, so it's fresh. Here's a stock photo, but once it's all said and done i'll get you guys something a bit more real.

After that, i started to build my fast motor. Had a lot planned, but i re-used the block and spun another bearing. decided it was time for a "new" bottom end, so i took the ported heads and intakes, and the cam, and put them on the 90k mile stock bottom end.

Phase 1 of the swap was completed in the late-summer of 07. The stock 3400 was in and running. it was meant to be a built motor from the start but a spun rod bearing took that from me, so i just put in a stock 90k mile motor for the time being. still faster than the 3.1 was.

It didn't take much for me to clean up the engine bay, though. a couple hours and some elbow grease, along with my cheap-o WAI and the polished intake from my old blue sunbird, and i had it cleaned up really, really nicely. I was pretty proud of that engine, just because i managed to keep it so clean.

This is the engine on the day i bought the car, in December 2005. Not too bad, for having a hair over 100k miles, but still scuzzy none-the-less.
