After getting the Rampage and driving it for a few months i decided to do a Turbo swap into it, which ended up being more of a full out restoration in the end...
Here is a picture of the original running gear, and it getting pulled out. (Carburated 2.2L with A413 trans)
Motor and trans pulled, and after removing everything else in the engine bay it's ready for the next step...
I got rid of all the original paint and rust by sandblasting the entire engine compartment. (The Plum Crazy Purple paint seen in the pics above is from when my Dad owned it, he planned on painting it that colour)
After prepping the bare metal it was acid etched and then sealed with PPG epoxy primer.
Finally the colour was sprayed with PPG Global Base clear. Then the T1 Harness from the SC parts car was put in with all new red wire loom. I also had to remake all the steel brake line from front to back due to them being rusted.
Here is the motor which was fully rebuilt. It's an 1986 2.2L T1 block that was bored .020" over and the garbage LW rods were tossed and replaced with the TII ones while it was getting rebuilt. For the cylinder head i used the Swirl head that was also rebuilt, and the slider cam was replaced with the 88TBI roller cam.
The Transmission i used was an 1989 A555, which i pulled apart and rebuilt with all new bearings and synchros. The gearset shown above was from an A520 parts trans, because i was going to build a hybrid A520/A555 but the intermediate shaft i had was ratched, so i'm running the 3.85 final drive from the A555 and i'm glad i kept it! I had to cut some holes to to run the shifter cables inside, and swap out the standard pedals from from the SC. (axles from an 1988 Omni automatic) I also recently added a Chro-moly bearing plate from FWD performance.
Here is my new Turbos Unleashed Garrett turbo with the quick spool option and 2.5" SV
The motor and trans. going in through the bottom to avoid scratching my new paint. I find this is one of the easiest ways to put a motor and trans into an L-body.
The K-frame installed and the weight of the car is finally on it's wheels!
I upgraded from four lug to five using the SC knuckles. I replaced the wheel bearings, grease seals, Rotors, pads and calipers which were from an 89 Daytona for a litlle better stopping power. I couldn't afford the Koni coil over struts at the time, so i bought cheap replacement struts and cut the coils to get the stance i was after..
Adding the final pieces of the swap and hoping it fires up..
