Jay’s Honda CRX

My Honda CRX HF gets 60mpg and its not even a hybrid. Just informing everyone that my CRX cost $3,000 while car manufacturers are selling the same "high fuel efficiency" vehicles for over $20,000.

Does it bother you that we are using vastly more complicated technology today to achieve the same gas mileage results as 20 years ago?

The Outstanding Public Debt as of May 2008 is over 9 TRILLION dollars!
The estimated population of the United States is over 300 MILLION people!
so each citizen's share of this debt is over $30,000!

And while Im not saying that YOU have to pay this amount... but someone has to!

About 43% of American families spend more than they earn each year.
Average households carry some $8,000 in credit card debt.

Part of this is due to buying brand new cars you dont need and spending far too much on gas. In 2008, if you had a car that got 35mpg, your car was a GAS SAVER! My CRX is 20 years old and it gets almost double that! No, it doesnt have airbags, ABS, rain-sensing wipers or auto-dimming mirrors. But it does decrease my consumer dependency and increase my personal dependency. I am no longer part of the mammoth gremlin of a half-ton SUVs being driven by 18 yr olds who couldnt parallel park on an empty street to save their life. I am an educated driver who knows the capablities of my vehicle and drives it accordingly. And yes, I am quite capable of burning out and drifting with it. But doing so would fantastically murder my gas mileage.

The More You Know...

The Positive Response to all this is heartfelt and very assuring to our future.

However, some people feel the need to spread negativity. A few make good points.
Others are actually proud they waste gas. One even racially profiled my car. LOL
Are they ignorant? Read on and you make the call.

1. "NO car gets 60mpg.... not even a hybrid.... no car from the factory."

2. "You never hear of a modern car having anything less than a four star crash test safety rating. The next car I buy will not get 40 mpg, probably won't even get 30mpg, but it will be safer."

3. "I LOVE to drive my gas hog muscle cars. They get way more smiles per mile."

4. "my Bronco get's 10mpg...SO WHAT. Your ricemobile will never be able to do what my USA built truck can do, not even close. My vehicle will tow my large gas guzzling boat, and my gas guzzling ATV's"

5. "thats why i bought a bike..."

6. "the CRX gets about 40 mpg, tops"

Read how a guy got 59mpg in a STOCK Honda Accord!
Read how a guy got 88.8mpg in a Honda Insight!

Now this is what youve all been waiting for. How I achieve such mileage...

So I present to you my secrets. (But dont tell anyone ok?)

1. Take care of your vehicle. Clean oil, fresh spark plugs and a well-tuned motor are more efficient than a run-down system. Dont forget the air filter. If dirty or old, replace it.

2. Keeping your highway speed at 55 mph can improve you gas mileage by as much as 25%, compared to 75 mph. (Yeah, I know--this one's tough for me too) Basically you will end up paying an extra $0.20 per gallon for every 5 mph above 60 that you drive.

3. Run your air conditioner less. The compressor makes the engine work harder.

4. Keep your tires inflated properly. Incorrect inflation leads to rolling resistance from the tires. And the smaller your tires the better. The bottom line is that Pizza Cutters > Dubs.

5. Drive at an even speed, whenever possible. It's more efficient than rushing to the next traffic light and then stopping.

6. Choose the route with the flattest terrain and fewest stops, if you can. At idle you get 0mpg.

7. Drive on highways instead of city streets, where practical. A vehicle moving at constant speed is more efficient than one that slows and speeds up, stops and starts.

8. Do all your driving errands at once. A cold engine consumes more gas than a warmed up engine.

9. Eliminate unnecessary cargo. Hauling heavy loads in the trunk or inside the car will lower your gas mileage. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2%.

10. Be Aerodynamic. Bodykits and Wings are very cool but their purpose is to provide wind resistance at high speed. You dont want wind resistance. You should probably close your windows too.
