Headlight Conversion.
August 4, 2003
Everyone has pretty much either asked me "WHY" or has given me praise for what I am doing. Either way it is what I wish to do to the car.
Reasoning: the car looked good with the flip ups down... but the headlights popped up too far and didn't give the car a clean look anymore. I wanted something different on my car and actually wanted it to be fully ORIGINAL... I very well doubt anyone has done a swap like this before (Levin conversion in the US doesn't count).
the lights: JDM Nissan Silvia S13 Projector headlights.
So far: Well... today we just picked up an air compressor to spray gel coats so we can make a mold of my hood and then make a fiberglass hood (if you have an AE92 coupe and think $200 for a fiberglass hood sounds good e-mail me at: toyotaspeed90@hotmail.com I will make you one if I get enough responses).
I removed all of the stock flip ups and the motors, grill, and parking lights. The work area can be seen here:

We had to do quite a bit of cutting (too bad we JUST got the air compressor)... so we used a Dremel and cut for about 16 hours going through over 60 dremel bits (including 10 reinforced bits) cutting the hood and fenders. Also, the backing of the Silvia corner lamps were cut.... the lines of the headlights and corners together didn't match the car... so why match the car to the lights when you can keep the cars lines and modify the lights? That's what we are in the middle of (fiberglassing the backings on).
Here you can see the difference between the S13 lights installed and the stock lamps (not popped up)
Headlight brackets are made and headlights are mounted and "aimed". Lights are great.... in the picture the corner lamps look installed but they have yet to be mounted.

Yes... there are holes in my hood and thank you (in advance) for pointing it out. This is why we plan on making a Fiberglass hood (and to attempt at such a large project). We plan on molding in a small/sleek hood scoop as well. I will add to this page as I go along.
