The Rebel is a 1967 SST 2 door with a vinal top. It origionally came with a 290 Typhoon 2 barrel engine. It now has a 290 Typhone with a 4 barrel carb and header style manifolds from a Javelin that were modified for the dog-leg ports. it also has an electronic ignition distributor.
I also put disk breaks from a 72 Matador on the front. It also has over sized sway bars on the front and hopefully will have a posi rear end and sway bars there too. I found a place that makes new spider gears to make that regular rear-end posi. i also found a place that will take your old AMC axles and modify them so they will not break the cotter pin holding them in. I also want the polyurethane bushings for the entire car. I had to replace the rusty hood so i got a 1968 Rebel hood and cowl (ie, like the Rebel Machine). At the same time i got 4 more Mag 500 wheels, remote side mirrors, and a few other odds and ends. I have 1972 Matador doors with the flat door handels that will be put on the car before getting painted.
I have the steel mag wheels for the Rebel. that are in 2 different widths so i wil put the 1/2 wider ones on the rear
The car has bucket seats but no councle, just the arme rest.
Its been in and out of the family for years now.
At one point it was in a crash and had the oil pan ripped off by a tall curb that also twisted the cross member. The curb also bent one of the Mag 500 wheels and broke a few studs. It was also backed into while in the street smashing the drivers door and front fender. In it's life two cars have given up their lives for this and its (sister in the gerage) my dads 1967 AMC Marlin. The count is one 1972 Matador 360 cui and a 290 4door Rebel Named Babe for its light blue color.
The Marlin was the doner for the current 290 4b in the Rebel now. It got a new 367 cui (from the Matador) with a hot cam like the Rebel Machie's 401 had. It also has a 3500 rpm stall torque converter. It too will get Posi and the rear sway bars and polyurethane bushings same as the Rebel. The Marlin has whon the best in class at the Auto Rama in Cleveland in 1994 and several other trophies usually because its the only or one of the only Marlins there.
Since i got the Rebel 6 years ago its been toyed with and parked. At one point i was going make it into a light weight drag car and then a auto cross car... but as it sits im gonna make it into a nice driver that i might take to a auto cross event or to the strip. when i have a few thousand to play with, we have a 390 block in the gerage... and with cylinder liners it can be punched out to 450 something with stroking. one can only dream right? Here are some painting ideas i had with painting the bumpers and door handles. and also a concept pic of an AMXGT.
