Sound System

My entire system was basically a budget project. Brands are mismatched and I had to skimp in a couple areas. But all things considered, I'm very happy with what I've built. Here's an overall system diagram. And the rest of the page details the specific components. Enjoy!

Head Unit

Custom89Shadow's 1989 Dodge Shadow For the head unit, I went with the 50wx4 Pioneer DEH-3400. It has many good features, and I find the only place it is lacking, is that it only has 1 set of pre-outs. You'll also notice my amp switch below. I fabricated a new switchplate and cupholder in place of the other cup holder. When the subs are switched on, the LED lights up.

Subs and Enlosure

Here's a pic of my current setup. I custom built the box to 3.0 cu. ft. and tuned it to 32hz. I fibreglassed some 6x9's on top. I'd say it turned out pretty well. As far as the sound goes, its booming from a couple 10" Clarion SRW2581's.

They're 400W, 4-ohm DVC, and sound great. Its a pretty impressive magnet for being 10" and the silver finish and inverted dustcap make them look cool.

I'll soon be replacing them with this 1200W RMS Resonant Engineering HC15d2. Just look at that beauty. (picture taken by sounddomain member wannalearn) Take a look at other pics and stats here.

Amplifier

The Clarion's get their power from the 600W Kenwood KAC-729s. I've got it wired in stereo at 150Wx2 @ 2 ohms. It's not HUGE power, but it definately does the trick. It will soon be my amp for the front and rear speakers, and I plan on getting this JBL BP1200.1.

This bad boy is 1200W RMS @ 1 or 2 ohms(bench tests showed a higher output, but JBL states 1200W). I'm buying this within the month since the exchange rate is pretty cheap right now. I'll then add a single 15 in place of my Clarions. Everything's fine right now, but I'd like to go bigger.

Front Stage

Up front I'm using Eclipse SE8253's. They're 2-way coax 5-1/4's.. Pyle Audio 1" Tweeters also add to the front stage. They're 150 watts each and best of all, they only cost me $30 for the pair.

Old System

These are pics of my old box which came with my Pyramids. I thought it worked pretty well for what I paid, but then when I found out how much a custom box would cost, I changed my mind.

The box came loaded with these 2-10" 350w Pyramid Subwoofers. They died after about a month. Just shows that you get what you pay for (in most cases.)
