MY Grandmother had a 1998 LS1 Firebird. The engine antifreeeze started leaking and she was worried that her little dog would drink it. Her neighbor (a young kid in his 20s) said that it would bbe best for her to use the Iron Duke 2.5-liter engine (91 horsepower) out of his base model 1991 Chevy Lumina. My Grandmother said yes and 1 week later she had the LS1 V8 engine out and the 2.5-liter Iron Duke coulped to some 3-speed automatic from a RWD Fiero was put under the hood . When I came home from overseas to visit her, she asked me If I would go to the store and buy her dinner. Naturally I said, "Sure Grandma, but I want to take your Firebird Formula." So she said yes, and I headed toward the car. As I stepped inside the car I instantly noticed something was strange. The shifter was awkward looking and looked really dated. I thought to myself "Well it is an American car." When I started the car I thought it actually sounded better than the previous time I drove it, so everything seemed normal. I put it in reverse and everything changed. As I grabbed the shifter to put it into Drive, the transmission made this amazing sound, it was like a big clunking sound. I steped on the gas and to my surprise it didn't move at all. I step harder on the gas and it did finally move, but I'm talking 0-60 in like 19 seconds, no joke. Also, the engine was smoking up a storm and I had to drop it into 2nd gear (on the auto shifter) just to go 60 MPH, the tach was reading like 5,200 RPM. Anyway, so I go back home to deliver the food and I'm like "Grandma, get out here." My Grandmother comes out of the house and I tell her what's wrong. She says to me " Oh hunny, I traded in the engine for an Engine from Larry (he is the 24 year-old neighbor), He says I am saving the earth with this economical engine, so I traded him that big ole V8 for it." In disbelief I opened the hood and there inside lye a tiny 4-cylinder engine with oil all over it. I was soo furious that she had been dooped. Then at that time Larry pulls up in this pimped out Fiero with this huge LS1 V8 engine in the back. When he sees me he try to drive off, but my Aunt is already standing in front and my Grandmother in the back. Instead of taking the wrath, he puts it in reverse and backs right over my grandmother. The V8 sounded awesome though, due to most of it sticking out of the rear end of that Fiero. Anyway, we take her to the hospital and she totally ok, but when they were there they found out that she had early Alheimers disease. So, now because we cought it early, she is going to live.
