BRIEF HISTORY
My 1984 Chevrolet Caprice is a rare bird amongt the
225,000 Caprices made in 1984. Out of the 225k that
were made, only 19,500 were coupes. Even more rare
is that it is Landeau Top delete which most coupes came
with. The car has always been in my family, starting with
my Great Aunt in 1984. She rarely drove it and in 1995 sold
it to my Grandfather with 45,000mi on it. He used it as his
everyday car (through 10 Upstate NY winters) until I helped
him buy a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquie in October of 2005.
He gifted me the car with 94,200 miles on it and I've been
enjoying it ever since. The car as of 8/15/2008 has 100,354mi
and the new performance engine has 800mi on it. Here is
a brief overview of what I've done so far.
The most obvious upgrade was the wheels which are
a set of 20in Dayton (true knock offs) courtesey of Ebay.
The tires are 235/35R20 Wanli's (?) I bought them for their
kick ass tred pattern.
Next up was the totally custom exhaust system done by
Broadway Services which is a performance exhaust shop
that does phenomenal work. Custom bent to my
specifications: Straight 2 1/2in pipe that splits after the trans
into two 50 series Flowmaster mufflers. Followed up with
two Camaro SS exhaust tips spaced a 1/2 an inch from the
rear bumper. It sounds ungodly loud out back, but is very
tolerable inside even with the windows down.
Finally the stock AM/FM dial radio had to go. I replaced it with
a Pioneer DEH-p80MP cd deck. I could go on for days about
its specs and functions, but the point it is, it sounds great. I
replaced the rear speakers with some "Pyle Drivers". They
sound cheap, but the magnet on the back is 5 1/2 inches in
diameter... and on a (6 x 9) thats insane. All in all the car
sounds good enough untill I get my 2 12in subs in the back.
Notice how the CD deck knob matches the knob on the
cigarette lighter. That was totally un-intentional.
